The need/value of wearing masks has been proven! We are NOT going to argue about it in this forum. Everyone needs to cooperative and follow guidelines that will help us get out of this mess with minimum sickness and deaths!
People choosing to ignore the evidence will only prolong our recovery at the expense of themselves and the public at large.

dturm wrote: I've worn a mask for the last 45 years, averaging probably 4 hours three times a week. In my world there are two different reasons to wear PPE (like lab coats, safety glasses/goggles, gloves, booties, hair covers, beard covers, face shield, fitted respirator, etc); one is to protect yourself from what you are working with (chemicals, animal or human samples, toxins, etc) or to protect the product from what you might shed (biomarkers in saliva droplets, DNA in skin flakes, biomarkers in skin flakes or oils on your skin, etc) that the customer wants to measure in their samples.
The use of face masks is like the second reason above, you wear them to prevent you from contaminating the environment around you. Think of the cloud around someone vaping or smoking, that is what the droplet cloud (that can contain viruses) looks like around everyone. If you can smell the vapor/smoke you just walked into a droplet cloud someone left in the environment. If you can smell someone’s bad breath or breath mint, you just walked into their droplet cloud. Wearing masks is to reduce the amount of vapor in your cloud and to limit the distance the cloud spreads around you.

There is a difference between describing the effects of smoking on the smoker or those impacted by second hand smoke and asking why they continue to smoke or telling them to stop smoking. The former is not considered bullying; the latter is. If you feel the former is bullying then every published study on how masks minimize the spread of covid must also be considered bullying and you should tell WHO and CDC to stop.

Most of those I hear objecting to wearing masks feel that their rights are being impacted. What doesn't seem to be understood is that since Covid-19 can be spread by people that don't know they have the disease, by not wearing a mask they are the ones impacting the rights of others.

Like smoking/no smoking zones; I think it should be made clear what the rule is for mask use in areas and it be enforced.
One last thought. If I’m wearing a mask and you have chosen not to wear one it is your responsibility to not come into my personal social distancing space.

So sad that some of the children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren of the Greatest Generation have become so selfish.
Can you imagine back then if someone had said “No, I am not going to black out my windows at night!” or “No, I am not going to ration my gasoline! I’ll get an extra supply!”
People during WW2 sacrificed to defeat a common enemy. The enemy now is Covid-19. It is a minimal sacrifice to defeat this enemy by wearing a mask in common spaces.

Tell you what. If you're going to be impacted by C19 I suggest you stay home and protect yourself. Wear a mask in your house and keep all people away. Have a fried shop for you and drop your groceries off on your porch.
IOW, do your thing without trying to bully other people.
Ummm . . I kinda hate that I need to ask what should be obvious, but you do realize that many people with high risk factors have to go out to work, right? They have no choice in the matter if they want to be able to pay their bills and buy food.
