Remember this pic?

Jim, when you read this, make sure you are sitting down. If you are on heart medicine, you either need to take a pill before reading this, or at least have one ready to take as your read this.
This photo, shows a couple of things.
1. I was welding too close to flammable material.
2. I was welding with my wedding ring on.
3. I was welding without welding gloves on.
4. Temporarily, I was welding with no gloves on.
Take a deep breath, I survived, no harm, no foul! Lol...
If you want to do something, you will find a way.
If you don't, you will find an excuse.

Ok, moving on.
This pic, shows a couple of things.
The 2 pieces have been welded together, (yellow arrows), and we have a copy of the 2 angles that the front cap was riveted to.
On the lower left we have the green circle, which is where I cut the angle to match the original.
On the upper right in the red circle, you can see where the original ends, but the new steel on top is too long. That will be trimmed next.

View from the opposite end, where I have just trimmed the extra length off, and now we have a duplicate of these 2 pieces.
See, nothing to it.... Lol.

WHAT??!!
You still got that finger or what? You don't say. Did everything burst into flame or not? You don't say.
Why is that new piece of steel in two pictures above longer than the template piece below it? Ahh, I see you finally got around to trimming it. Took forever.

Finger still in place, no flames. No harm.
The new piece was just placed there until I welded the joint together, and then I could cut the excess off, at the exact length.

And the beat goes on.......
My cut off wheel keeps getting a little smaller. Looks like I will have to add a piece to the bottom so I don't have to replace the wheel yet.

Didn't get a chance to work on the motor home today, so I am going to use a few pictures that I took some time ago, but have not used yet.
This is a "how it works" instead of the usual "destruction" pics I usually post.
I will try to get out tomorrow and get some welding done, with new pics.
Going to have a few pics on how an awning is attached, on the tube end, just in case you have never looked at it.
Looking at the end of the awning tube, we have, (at least on my awning), 3 holes, 1 of which is pictured below. These run the entire length of the tube.
One of these is used by the end of the awning, one is used with the strap that is used to pull the awning open, and the 3rd is not used, on mine.

This second pic shows a round hole, with a slot at the outside edge.
