Moving toward the back and bottom of the drivers door area, we see, that, yes, I tore the fiberglass.
This stuff is not very sturdy, unless it is glued to something else. If I wanted to, I could, with one hand, tear this limb from limb for the entire length and height of the motor home.
The red arrow points to the area we will look at next.

By the way, the red circle, shows a hole in the metal there, and I have no idea why. There were no wires or anything else running through there, so I can only assume, at one point, there may have been wires through there, but I don't really know.
If you want to do something, you will find a way.
If you don't, you will find an excuse.

Here you can see daylight between the steel side wall framing, and the angle steel which is to the inside.

Here are 3 close ups of that area. Tell me again, why I keep getting cold air in this coach when the temps drop? Lol...

Next time, we will see what all is screwed into the steel framing, that has to be removed, before we can get the steel out of there, to replace it.

Getting ready to remove part of the fiberglass skin, so it would be easier to deal with the steel inside.
Since I had already torn the fiberglass, (red circle), I decided to finish the job and continue the tear with the yellow line.
The red arrows, show where the seam is between the bottom and top pieces of fiberglass, so I figured I could just separate the 2 at the seam, tear it a little, and then remove the bottom section.

Using the putty knife to separate the two pieces of fiberglass. The double sided tape Fleetwood used, was obviously permanent, because after 34 years, it was still very "stuck".

If you separate the 2, be careful that you don't just stick the putty knife in like this, and "run" with it, from the front to back. You will end up cutting the fiberglass, with the tape still very much in place.
Yes, I learned that by experience, on the other side.

This is what the area looked like, originally.

I, in turn added a piece of steel vertically, and removed the one piece horizontally, at the top of the door frame.
I added some welding in the red circle areas, and since I am now removing the door frame, these areas in the red circles, needed to have the welds ground off, so I could remove the old steel around the door.
