Ever have one of those days, when what you expected to happen, didn't?

Yea, me neither........... LOL

Pics coming.

Ok, after the failure with the screws above, I decided to use the structural adhesive, and re-test on the same 20" square box.

So, I sanded the edges of the aluminum, to remove the shine, and give it some "tooth" for the adhesive to grab onto.

Next, is to add a small amount of adhesive around the outside, then flip it over and set it on top of the wood box.

Then I put some weight on top, to help hold the aluminum down, and give the adhesive a chance to cure.

Next is put the box on the ground and get ready to apply weight.....

And BOOM. As you can see in this picture, I didn't even get all the weight on top of this, and - straight to the ground.

So, looking at the failure, we can see that the adhesive, stuck to the wood, but not to the aluminum, for the most part.

Ok, back to the drawing board. Let's use a more coarse grit on the aluminum, and re-try this test again.

So, here we sanded off the edges, again, even more than last time, then cleaned it up with lacquer thinner, and let it dry.

Then, added another bead of adhesive, and added weight, to let it cure again, so I can re-test.

Let me say this. This is not the fault of the adhesive. I have tested this stuff with other things, and have not had a failure like this. This has to be a failure, of not having the surface properly prepared, for the adhesive.

My fault, not the adhesive.

Adding more money to this project. I bought a roll of aluminum flashing, that is 20" x 50' long, to use under the floor.

$534.38 plus the flashing @ $52.44 = $557.98.

Also adding 2 of these tubes of adhesive. $74.56

$557.98 + $74.56 = $632.54

Also, bought 2 more pieces of steel, 1" x 1.5" x 24', that will go into the passenger side wall. I need to add a few studs there, to match the 2' on center studs that are on the drivers side.

Adds another $72.00 to the bill.

$632.54 + $72.00 = $704.54
