That is easy. I just answer 'eight'
No stipulations, no decimals, no driving habits, no conditions or anything extra.

I tell them that I get just under 8. If they act shocked, I tell them the coach weighs 26,000 pounds.

Yep, 5.5 MPG is what I tell them all. That's right, if I didn't run the genset, for DRIVING MPG. I don't think they really care that I got about 1/2 MPG while working in NOLA during Katrina and ran the generator 24/7 many times during the 6 week stay.
What I post is my 2 cents and nothing more. Please don't read anything into my post that's not there. If you disagree, that's OK.
Can't we all just get along?

Why doesn't your 4500 lb car get 70 mpg?
Some can and do even better then that

OK, "Why doesn't your non hybrid/electric 4500 lb car get 70 mpg?"
PS: A Chevy Volt weighs 3500 lbs... not 4500 and it's using a second energy source to get more than 50 mpg. Why only 50 mpg? That's all my 3000 lb Prius can get using just gasoline.
This post is my opinion (free advice). It is not intended to influence anyone's judgment nor do I advocate anyone do what I propose.

Tell the truth. Or you can be like many fishermen and rv owners, lie about it.

Is this really an "issue" for anyone? Who cares what anyone else thinks? If you are talking to an RVer who owns a 5th wheel and is considering buying a Class A then there might be a slight chance that the questioner is actually interested in the response. If you are parked at a Cracker Barrel and the guy with the Prius asks the same question, you should let him know that if it were not for you and the RV you drive, Global Warming never would have happened!
