I say 7mpg but the car behind me can go thousands of miles and use almost no gas at all.

I tell them I'm happy to get 7 mpg in an aerodynamic brick that weighs 45,000 pounds. Why doesn't your 4500 lb car get 70 mpg?
This post is my opinion (free advice). It is not intended to influence anyone's judgment nor do I advocate anyone do what I propose.

I think what some people don't realize, we don't give people 'city' mileage, only 'highway' mileage.
I read something recently that garbage trucks get 1 to 2 miles per gallon.
When you think about it, we would too if we were starting and stopping so often. Since we probably don't stop every 100 ft., we would get 3 to 4 miles per gallon with our big heavy motorhomes in city driving.

Can't count the number of times over the last 20 years I have been asked that question. I just answer the question with the truth regardless of who asks.

I agree, when I get asked I usually say something like it doesnt matter, I want to get to this place, and to do that I need to buy fuel... so, when I need more I buy more....when I run out of money I go make more...

I once told a nosey neighbor that I didn't like that the coach got 30 mpg. Of course he said that can't be true. I slid the gennie out and told him it that was the motor. All he said was " I would have never guessed". I never cracked a smile.

Just finished a 7100 cross country trip and averaged 9.2 mpg. Of course I only have a 340 hp diesel and not a 600 hp diesel. I receive that mpg question all the time. I tell them my RV mpg, then my wife's minivan Mpg, then my jeep wrangler mpg. Then follow up with it way better than the 2 mpg for the boat I was looking at before I bought the RV!!
