Is that a sunrise or a sunset, portscanner? Either way, very pretty!

Hmmm, just found this thread. I should share a memorable one.

The Midnight Sun at Galbraith Lake campground on the Alaska Arctic North Slope (Brooks Range in view), 1 AM, July 4, 2012, in a 2003 Starcraft Lonestar pop-up truck camper.

Maybe I should mention the sun is on the north horizon like a circle it travels all the way around the horizon through the day. The shadow is pointing southeast.

Dave, I never thought about the path of the midnight sun through an entire day, but you must be right -- it just travels in a circle around the horizon. Amazing! Thanks for posting that photo. I just have to get to the Far North someday. . . .

Yes profdant, it is something you don't think about until it comes up. Over the equator the sun rises in the east goes directly overhead and sets in the west. Over the poles, depending on the season, it's that circle around the horizon thing. Too cool! And all latitudes in between are some angle in between. When up there in Alaska we said "the sun doesn't so much set, as it slides into going down along the western horizon. Sunset in the non-solstice summer takes quite a little while!

On the road with my continuing adventures.

While I do understand many do not see the appeal of the desert, but this landscape is a passion of mine and often the location I spend my winter months. There is endless hiking, motorcycle riding of all kinds and terrain. As well as varied plant material and terrific animal tracking opportunities and then there are the spring flowers!

This is a recent picture of what I refer to, as my Mojave Camp. It is near the Jawbone Region of the Mojave Desert and I have many locations I move and boondock at, while exploring the desert for the aforementioned opportunities. Instead of speeding through the desert, take a moment and spend a few days exploring the varied opportunities available to the adventurer.

Nice pic. I agree with you, my friend, on the beauty of the desert.

Yeah I agree too. Your picture reminded me of a past experience (film days - no pic right now). Family, with kids, trip to Grand Canyon, but with the Canyonlands stop. A great little campsite near Elephant hill, coffee at sunrise on the slick rock hill behind the camper. Oh yeah, love the desert.
