The doc said use Neosporin to keep my stitches pliable and contribute to healing, but I don't like using antibiotics when I know there's something better out there, so I used honey bandages, which I can buy at CVS. Well, I got my stitches out yesterday. Doc and PA were amazed at how good it looked. I told them about the honey bandages, and they immediately started researching whether they should recommend them. Amazing stuff, that honey.

It's a gray, misty kind of day, so the Commemorative Air Force didn't do a flyover for the village Christmas parade. At least it's warm mist.

Spotacus and Alex are ragging me for lunch. Well, I did feed 'em early, so I guess they are hungry. Then it's time to finish the decorations. Later, y'all.

Back in the 1960's, there were books written and people making the talk show circuit, claiming almost any ailment could be cured or made better by honey and/or apple cider vinegar. I guess those must be old-time remedies that probably often still work.

And the cat looks a bit like Alex...

We're actually finished with decorations, house cleaning, and in general getting ready for the Christmas relative influx. We'll have Mom with us the entire time she's here, as Sister is afraid that Nephew's adolescent dog will accidentally knock Mom over. Nephew's back from Afghanistan and will arrive on a short Christmas leave on Sunday. He can't take Yoda back with him until he has a place to live that accepts dogs, so Yoda stays until at least February.

Yoda is well-named. He's about as goofy looking as the Star Wars character, with a huge Labrador head on a Bassett body and a Lab tail that's a lethal weapon. Sweet dog, though. When he goes home with Nephew, it will be the first time in decades that Sister has not had at least one dog in the house - and she's looking forward to just the three cats.

We had our writers' group Christmas potluck Tuesday night. Only three people took their extra food home, so we've been eating leftovers ever since. I'm kinda tired of certain dishes now, so they'll not be showing up for the Christmas day feast.

In fact, I'm feeling decidedly non-traditional for food this year. The weather will be very warm - I'm thinking really light flavors. Hmmm, must think this over.

But first, feed the cats. Leoghaire's already been fed.

Later, y'all.

We're doing a lightened up Christmas Gumbo this year and the traditional Chili for New Years. Just saying.[emoticon]

WLToo just suggested jambalaya. I was thinking stir fry, but jambalaya sounds good. Just throw it all into the crockpot and let it cook while we visit. Serve with a salad and crusty garlic bread. Simple.

Alex favored us with a good barf on the bed, followed by another on the area rug. Sigh.

Spotacus spent several days not doing much of anything except eating, sleeping, and going outside long enough to poop, then coming back inside to pee. Seems to be more active now, but since he's due for a January checkup, we'll watch closely and let the vet know what's been going on.

Some very large does we didn't recognize were grazing on the lawn yesterday morning. One of our small regular does grazed into the area, and a big one charged her. She slipped on the porch, but got cleanly away. We decided the big does should go away and let our little ones alone, so out the door we went and "poof!" no more big does.

Alex is chasing a gecko that got inside. WLToo opened the door, in hopes it can escape. We like geckos and try to rescue them from cats where possible.

Ah, I see Leoghaire coming up. Later, y'all.

After wearing shorts and flip flops on Christmas Day and the day after, the weather dropped into something resembling winter. We got nearly 2" of rain Saturday night, then the temps dropped into the 50s daytime. Was about 34 last night and will be around there tonight. So we have the fireplace going, Mom has Alex sprawled on her shoulder and chest, and Spotacus just stopped doing the combat head bump with me and stretched out on the table between our chairs. Good thing Mom was here; the Texas Panhandle had a right nasty blizzard, with lots of power outages, and she has no alternative heating means there. Don't know if her area lost power, but glad she was here to not go through it.

Leoghaire, Gimpy, and GF discovered a way into the garden. We opened one side of the fence, with plans to connect it to the shed, but haven't done it yet. So they strolled inside and helped themselves to whatever decided to grow in there. We didn't plant anything this year, so we don't know what they found, but they seemed to like it.

The Christmas jambalaya went over well, and it guaranteed few leftovers. We received a mystery gift: a garden gnome reading a book. But the box came directly from Amazon, with no wrapping and no card. So far, none of the family/friends are fessing up. Can't thank an anonymous gifter...

I do believe it's time for some cocoa. Later, y'all.

Awake since 0430, thanks to sinus drainage and Spotacus thinking he should go outside. In the moonlight, where varmits wander about. Don't think so. Had a chat with him, via water spray bottle. Finally let him out about 0720, when I fed Leoghaire and Gimpy the last of the deer corn. Shopping today for cat food and deer corn...

Saturday night, we headed to Sister's place so Mom could visit with Nephew who's just back from Afghanistan. It was raining. As I stopped at a red light, I looked in the rear mirror and saw a RAV4 sliding and fishtailing down the hill toward us. No chance of getting out of the way, as the cross traffic was already in the lanes. The driver tried to slide off the road to the right, but only succeeded in smacking her left front into my right rear bumper. Fair amount of damage to the RAV4; my bumper is bent and there's a crease in the tailgate.

That poor truck. Backed into in August, smacked in the butt in January. I did note that WLToo and Mom were both in the truck for each accident. Hmmmm.....

Tall and Short Friends arrived on 30 Dec. Picked up their fifth wheel from warranty work on 31 Dec, and are happily moving back in. The place looks right again; looked wrong while their fifth wheel was gone.

WLToo's surgery restrictions are lifted, so he put together his new smoker, and when it warms up a little more, he'll be back on the garden shed project. Hopefully, Tall Friend can assist in this winter project.

My winter project is to edit three of WLToo's books, and continue cleaning out the office/library/craft room. A cousin wants WLToo's grandmother's china and crystal, so that will be three very large boxes out of the room shortly. If I could only get WLToo to sort though all the electronics accessories and get rid of at least one box of stuff, we'd have enough room in there to turn around...

"Speaking" of WLToo, his first book is now for sale as an audiobook. Sales were even more brisk for its first two weeks than the e-book version was. I'm trying to get him to move out more smartly on the hard copy versions, as well as audio versions of the other books. The more formats, the more sales...

Time for breakfast. Later, y'all.

Well, we did it. Found a trailer we both like, that the F-150 can pull. Tomorrow we'll write the check for a Rockwood 2906WS. Still working on L'Andante, and we'll put her up for sale in the not too distant future. Meanwhile, our place looks like an RV park...

Spotacus is asleep next to my computer; Alex is in my lap. Heater is off, fireplace burning -- lovely night. Short Friend is breaking out the champagne to celebrate our finally finding the right trailer. It's been a good day.

The other driver's insurance accepted total liability, so I'll get set up with a repair shop on Monday. Should go quickly; they fixed a lot more damage on the F-150's front in August. By then, the dealer should have the backup camera installed and it will be ready to bring home. Then comes the fun part - deciding what transfers and what doesn't go into Rockwood, then figuring out what to do with the leftovers. But since I'm seriously into the "get rid of it" mode, the leftovers will most likely be donated or Freecycled.

Bought some new deer corn earlier this week. Leoghaire initially refused to eat it; I think she had gotten used to the partly fermented stuff and thought this was too bland. But she's eating it now, since Gimpy and Gimpy's Fawn are competing with her.

A movie is now showing. Later, y'all.
