We got another inch last night, but today was lovely. Drove into town and saw the Comal River still roaring, but well below the bridge. The Wurstfest grounds were already mostly cleaned up, ready for Wurstfest to begin next Friday. Out here at the lake, water is up to 913.5' (full is 909'), but there's lots of room for that extra water. Engineers will release the excess at a rate that doesn't cause further damage downriver.

There were a number of folks rescued from an RV park under the dam. One is a friend with a dog and 9 cats. Haven't gotten through to her yet; will try again tomorrow.

Spotacus spent today on the porch, just lazing. Alex spent today in bed, as usual. Leoghaire and Gimpy got all the deer corn, then bugged out just as a young buck came around the house. He cleaned up what they'd dropped, then sniffed the air and bounded away.

Now that it's cool enough to leave the air conditioner off and keep the windows open, I really miss listening to the barn swallows. Mockingbirds just aren't as much fun...

The unique nature of native vegetation means as soon as it gets a good drink of water, it turns green within 24 hours. It's really green around here again.

Long range forecasts are for a wet winter. If so, we'll have a truly spectacular wildflower display, starting in March. Looking forward to that.

Ah, well, back to looking at trailer floorplans. Later, y'all.

Our friend got out of the RV park safely with all critters. Her car got water in it and she says everything is "icky," but she's fine. Will help with cleanup when she's ready.

A six-point buck came up yesterday and looked in the open door, but did not walk up on the porch the way MDL did. At one point on Saturday, seven does did take shelter on the porch for a short time. Naturally, by the time I found the camera, they'd left - but it was interesting to see them all crowded together out of the rain.

Spotacus spent most of today outside, then came inside just at dark and hasn't budged off the bed since. Alex spent a lot more time today awake and moving around than he normally does - I guess he's feeling frisky with the extra feedings. He also found an old catnip toy and is rubbing/licking it frequently, and following the Roomba when it gets going. Doing pretty well for a 19 year old cat.

Things to do in the morning, so I'll head off to bed. Later, y'all.

Raining again, but light showers so far, although it could drop as much as 3-5" here and there, so there's a flash flood watch. It's also very warm and humid, so I had to turn the air conditioner back on. At least I should sleep well tonight, in a cold room.

Spotacus felt the humidity, too. He was quite lethargic until the house cooled down. Then he was killing wads of paper, climbing in and out a box, and in general causing mayhem. Alex had to take cover on top of my recliner, but mostly on my head. They've finally calmed down.

A couple more unfamiliar bucks came into the meadow, and all the does boogied. I'm a bit frustrated; WLToo's new garden shed directly interferes with my view of the lower meadow. Can't see them once they pass behind the shed. Sigh.

Well, I'm falling asleep as I type. Later, y'all.

Missed when you said why you wanted a trailer. We travel with a cat in a trailer and I really get tired of moving him from SUV to trailer when we are on the road. Can't leave him in the vehicle when its even slightly hot out and we stop for shopping or sight-seeing. And definitely can't leave him in the trailer - way too noisy and scary for him. Its a real pain in the tushy to have to move him back and forth several times a day and he isn't very happy about it either! We are looking for a motorhome.

Oh, no! Location of garden shed should've been cleared with management! Any chance he can move it a few feet?

GypsyJudy, we're going to a trailer because WLToo doesn't feel he can safely drive the MH anymore, with his Parkinson's. I've been doing most of the driving and either is fine with me. The feline moves from truck to trailer will just be another daily routine. The main challenge will be setting up the truck's back seat so they can ride in comfort, yet not be able to join us in the front seat. Can't leave Alex in a carrier/cage without litter box access...

CA Poppy, there's no way to move it. Too big.

Woke up this morning to the sound of an ambulance. It was the house up the hill from us - folks rarely come to their vacation home, so it was a surprise to see people even there, much less require an ambulance.

We also got another inch of rain early this morning. We're up to well over 60" total this year, twice the average. I have high hopes for next spring's wildflower display.

Best friend is coming for Thanksgiving and hopefully the Texas Renaissance Festival. It's a hoot, and is another chance to take L'Andante someplace at least one more time.

WLToo put in a movie I've not seen in decades, so later, y'all.

Rained a bit today. Things sure are green again, enough that the doe herd isn't showing up en masse for a feed. Leoghaire comes up by herself now. Good. I'd rather just feed her, in hopes she'll be a healthy doe when she reaches breeding age.

Drove through the neighboring area today. Saw a lot of spikes, but only one buck with a full rack. None looked as nice as the buck herd around us. We'll see how ours look after hunting season ends...

Was working in L'Andante today, and Spotacus joined me. He did just fine for a good while, then suddenly hiked his tail and acted like he was about to spray. I changed his mind right fast, then removed him from the RV. No idea what sets him off like that, but it's really annoying.

Spotacus later got in trouble clawing the window screen, while I was sitting on the porch. I leaned over, smacked him in the butt, and kept reading. He went around the house to the open door on the other side. Later, he climbed all over me, doing the big suck up, then promptly jumped up on the kitchen island. So he's been in some kind of trouble all freakin' day long. He's asleep on a porch chair now. Finally seems to have calmed down.

Alex talked to thin air a lot today. I think he goes somewhere, forgets where he is, and complains until the little gray cells make the connections. That's part of it, anyway. The rest is he announces when he's been to the litter box, and talks to the water before he drinks it. If we talk to him then, he loses his focus completely and doesn't finish what he was about to start. So we don't say anything when he heads for the litter box...

WLToo decided to cycle some of the emergency stocks, so we had freeze dried beef, mashed potatoes, brown gravy, English peas, "fruit" punch, and banana pudding. He ate all the beef and gravy, which tasted yucky to me. I stuck to the potatoes and peas, which were somewhat edible. We both tossed the pudding after two tastes. The punch was just vile. I do hope he never buys that brand again. Meals, Ready to Eat (MRE) tasted infinitely better...

Hmmm, found myself taking a short nap while typing this, so I'll just say Later, y'all.

We had an old cat like Alex. Poor guy would start walking and then slow, then stop. It was like his "spring" wound down.

Spotacus is feeling frisky now that's it's stopped raining.

I just love this thread. So interesting, the life stories and politics of the deer population in hill country, Texas. How can you tell him from the others, or is it by his actions? Did this one have a twin?
