Glad to know you're keeping the cat family safely inside. Coyotes and even fixes are dangerous. Hopefully that .22 got the coyote.

The coyotes have gone quiet, as have the foxes. The critter cam gets an occasional photo of a fox wandering by, but no coyotes. None have come up to the house and outbuildings lately.
For whatever reason, though, Spotacus is more interested in sleeping in a porch chair than going far after dark. He goes out immediately after his supper for about a half hour, then comes back inside while it's still light. We're happy with that.
We're in a critical weather situation now. No humidity, excessively dry vegetation, heat, and high winds. One dirtbag tossing out a cigarette and the whole area will light up. We got the lawn tractor and the hand mower back from the repair shop today, so we'll start cutting down the tall dry stuff, which will also throw the wildflower seeds about. Hopefully, the Farmer's Almanac will be right, and we'll have a mild, wet winter to give us lovely wildflowers next year and to alleviate the dryness.
Snicker. Spotacus is laying on the table between our chairs. He stretched one hind foot out to where it barely touched the tissue box. Must have tickled, because he immediately beat the snot (pun not intended) out of that poor tissue box. He could have given Eleanor Powell a run for her money with the speed he tapped with that one foot.
Tall Friend got safely off on his flight to Maine. Tall and Short Friends will be back on 30 Dec. Miss 'em already. I even miss their fifth wheel, which went for warranty repair work, due to a major water leak. Place looks funny without it being here.
WLToo finally found the problem with the swimming pool chlorinator, so at long last the chlorine stays are the proper level. I still get a good swim in every day, thanks to the heat staying around. Pool's still in the 80s. I do hope WLToo's plan to install a solar pool heater on the garden shed roof works out. I hate the winter months, when the pool drops into the 50s or 60s and even I can't hack that...
My ice cream is melting. Later, y'all.

Last couple of nights the temp dropped to 57, and the highs have only been in the 80s, with a breeze. I think my last few days in the swimming pool for this year are imminent. Sigh.
Six or seven does alternate coming up to the house for a little corn. Leoghaire has blended in well, considering she's only a year old and without her mama. All of them are skittish. I doubt any of them will become as brave as MDL was. Sure do miss her.
Alex is now up to four feedings per day. Seems to be working, as he is finally starting to gain a little weight. Good thing we take him with us on RV trips now; I doubt any kennel would feed him properly at his advanced age. Spotacus participates, getting a little gravy in his bowl. But if he really likes it, he licks up Alex' leftover food, too, so we'll have to watch him for excessive weight gain.
Looked at some more trailers today. Still haven't found just the right RV, but I've sure narrowed the choices down. Had to add another critical point - a space to put the litter box. If we wind up with a dinette, we might be able to put a side door in and set the box in there. If we get the rear recliners kind, there might be room for it between them or to one side. If we get the rear TV, we could just set it in front of that. Oh, the strange things one must consider when RVing with cats...
Got the windows open and the A/C off, and it's just lovely. Humidity coming back tomorrow, though, so we'll be back to A/C the rest of the week. And we might even have actual rain! Hope so.
I see Spotacus sitting at the window. Must let him in for the night. Later, y'all.

So the does showed up yesterday. I put down some corn. They immediately ran away. ???? Then a really nice looking 8-point buck strolls around the corner and right up to the corn dish. I believe it was Han; he was entirely too at ease, waltzing up toward me and the corn. I went back inside and let him have it.
So today he came back, looking in the windows like his mama did. "Hey, where's the food?" I was on the phone and computer and couldn't do anything. WLToo didn't even know he was out there. But we're not going to encourage him to hang around the house; he'll have to go next door to their big feeder.
Something had Spotacus spooked this evening. He wanted out, but not two minutes later, desperately wanted back inside. We saw/heard nothing, but with whitetail rut firmly underway, their noise could have been the problem.
It's that time of year: both humans getting one doctor appointment after another. At least we'll have all those out of the way by Christmas. Ever notice how, after a certain age, we collect doctors like baseball cards?
Keeping this one short, 'cause I'm tired. Later, y'all.

Glad Spotacus came in. I'm thinking "predator".
I like that: "we collect doctors like baseball cards". I'll have to use that one, it's so true.

The lake is overfull, with intake running about 27500 cubic feet per second. The flood warning sirens went off on the Guadalupe River just below the lake dam, about 2.5 miles away as the crow flies. The Weather Channel is calling them "tornado" sirens, and mispronouncing Guadalupe (Gwa da loop eh). All the main roads are closed for high water, so we couldn't go anywhere if we wanted to.
The pool is an infinity edge pool (not that it's designed that way). We got a lot of water on the south porch, until WLToo cut away a block of grass so it could run off. There's a stream running down the driveway and another one in the lower meadow. The roadside ditch is running about 2 feet deep (lovely clear water, though). Part of our drive washed into it. When the fuss is over, we'll be shoveling it back into place, then adding riprap.
Water got into the garage, but we had nothing directly on the floor. WLToo hasn't shingled the garden shed yet, but he checked and said it's barely damp inside. All in all, we're ok so far, considering we've gotten 8.72" rain since 0400 this morning and more is coming.
Spotacus is on the north porch, sitting in a chair and watching or napping. Alex prefers to stay inside - I bet the high humidity is bothering his old joints, even though the temps are in the 70s.
Leoghaire came up yesterday by herself. I think she came by this morning, but it was raining so hard we didn't even try to give her any corn. We have several lovely bucks wandering about, which makes our outside time a bit more dangerous than normal. At least two of them are accustomed to human interaction - I'd rather it not be with us, though.
Haven't been out to the RV to check it for any damage. Best do that now, between rain bands.
Later, y'all.

Be careful and stay safe! Southern OK where I live has just got a little over 1"of much needed rain. We got enough in the spring to have water going over the spillway on Lake Texoma twice, still dealing with the damage it did.Saw pictures on tv about the floods in south TX it looks really bad! Hope you don't get any damage on the house or RV.

RVs washed away in New Braunfels. An RV landed upside down on a Holiday Inn roof when a tornado hit Floresville. Hope all the RVers along the Guadalupe and Comal rivers got out in time, but I don't know status.
Pecan Park Riverside RV park in San Marcos evacuated this morning. They were just getting back to something resembling normal after being inundated back in May. Picture posted on their Facebook page is really sad. Haven't heard anything about other RV parks in this area.
Watching local weather. More to come, but storms are supposed to end in the morning. Then a possibility of more rain Wed-Thurs next week. At least the deer will have some fresh green stuff to eat...
