What took you so long? Everyone knew, Spot had you from the start. He kept taking you for walks and sitting with you. Even Alex knew. Thank you for keeping him. You are wonderful people.

I didn't actually consider it a foregone conclusion, until Spot moved into the house and there was no drama. If you've ever lived with cats that are not in harmony with one another, you know just exactly how bad it can be, both for them and for the humans. Particularly with an older cat that's had health issues, it is not an issue to take lightly.
But it looks like he had just what he needed to slide on past the old man without creating a major upset, and make himself at home. Good job, Spot!

The only drama we have going on right now is someone has decided to pee on one bath mat (even after it was washed four times to get the previous pee out), and someone peed outside the litter boxes last night.
We'll hang the bath mat when not in use, and we cleaned the manual box, then steam mopped the floor. If this is a real issue, we'll know soon enough.

For the peeing outside the litterbox, what we did was get a few plastic tablecloths from the 99¢ store and keep one of those, folded, under the box to save the floor. Sounds like somebody is offended at someone else's odor. Have you tried that multiple cat formula litter? There always has to be some kind of drama when you introduce a kitty competitor. Hope that stops soon.

Late neutered male... this may be what cost him his happy home, if it was him. You know, that cat attract has produced some good results when people who've come here with that problem have tried it. Might be worth a shot?

We've always used multicat litter. We just have two very fussy cats. Luckily, Bobbi is very happy with the Litter Robot. Alex and Spot are somewhat less than impressed with it. We've not seen either one actually inside it yet, so for the times they can't run outside, we have a normal box. Spot's quite fussy about it, but we don't know for sure if it was him or Alex who expressed his opinion last night.
Kind of interesting that Alex doesn't seem to like the Litter Robot; he's used every style of litter box we've ever tried without any fuss. Not sure why he appears to be avoiding the Robot. Of course, short of following him around, we're not positive he's not using it. Yet.
Cat attract? Have to look into that.

How old is Alex? Sometimes as they age they get a little less limber and getting into or out of a particular configuration may be tougher on them and thus they may avoid it. Or of course if they're having any kind of physical issues with urination, that can cause avoidance.
If there's a stress issue, or just a not-good-habits issue, the Cat Attract litter might be quite helpful. Pheremone diffusers in the litterbox area can also be a help in getting them relaxed and more inclined to do things your way.
