Don't know the books you're talking about but that doesn't mean anything other than they sound like "kissing books". They don't sound like Guy-Books. You know the kind. Secret assassination plots, all out battles and ammo explosions. Or high speed chases. Or war history. [emoticon]

Diana's books are about time travel, war, colonial life and medicine, leadership, and the love between a couple over decades (and centuries). Her combat scenes are so meticulous that you'll feel like you're in the middle of the fight.

I don't read "kissing books." She does have some of that in there, but it's so integral to the story that I don't mind at all. In fact, her books can't be classified, because they fit into so many genres.

Spotacus didn't supervise the toilet replacement. He stayed in bed.

Leoghaire and her fawn were at the porch right on time for their dish of corn. She's very quick to revert back to how we fed her mother. I suspect she'll continue to come to the porch even after WLToo reloads the feeder down in the meadow. That's fine with me.

Spotacus wants to lay on my lap, so I'll have to move the computer. Later, y'all.

Hope you weren't offended. I was doing a riff off of "The Princess Bride".

[emoticon]Never get involved in a land war in Asia...

Another brutal winter day: high was 65, very light wind. I wore shorts. Ahhh....

Lovely day, so we got a few things accomplished around the old homestead. Startled a few deer several times, so it seems the doe herd is once again hanging about in our meadow.

Spotacus decided he needed to play with my sneakered foot this evening. That was a first. At his vet visit last week, he was down to just under 17 pounds. Maybe the weight loss energized him. At the moment, he's sitting on the pool deck in overwatch.

Think I'll join him outside for a while, and maybe get a little star watching in. Later, y'all.

The castle moat is drained. Swimming pool guy drained it yesterday. Now he'll hook up a pressure something or other to the water pipes, to see if that's where the leak is.

Next week, he'll repair the leak, then replaster the whole thing. Then we'll spend a week or so filling the pool back up. That's not a water bill I want, but it's not going to rain enough to fill it.

Meanwhile, we're still waiting on the plumbers to clear the backlog of damage from the cold snaps, before they can come and figure out why the less than two years old water heater in the hall bath is no longer putting out hot water, merely body temperature water. Since it's the only bathroom with a tub, Short Friend's not going to be lounging in a bath anytime soon.

It's another lovely 70 degree day, a couple degrees warmer than normal. Spotacus spent all morning checking out various changes to the yard after the pool drained (13000+ gallons of water flowing downhill into the meadow definitely watered that area).

Hmm, my eyes are all goopy. Gotta go rinse them. Later, y'all.

Perhaps it's time for your own water well? The best thing we ever did.

Adding water wells to this acquifer requires applications and non-refundable fees, with zero guarantee of approval. So that's a no go.

Getting rainwater collection tanks, hooking up the gutters to same -- that's doable, if expensive. It's on our list, but farther down than other maintenance issues.

Meanwhile, the pool is looking better.

This is immediately after they removed the old tile

This is with new tile in the pool, bigger waterfall opening in spa, and various repairs made.

And the border tile is complete.

Lots more to do, but we had a cold front blow in last night, so probably nothing more can be done until Tuesday.

The grinding noises and assorted other power tools gave Spotacus the willies. He couldn't find a quiet place in which to hide, so he stayed on top of the nearest human all day. Poor guy.

Sorry, Spotacus. But the Hoomon needs the pool.

The old plaster has been prepped for the new plaster:

If it doesn't rain tomorrow, they'll start the re-plaster. Only 3 more days of work to go and then we re-fill the pool. Unfortunately, those days won't be consecutive because of the rain in the next week's forecast. I just hope the rain actually does fall here, instead of all around except here.

It's warm in the evenings again, so Spotacus is back to sleeping on the porch until bedtime. What a life...

All six does and a one-antlered buck were standing by the north porch early this morning, staring at us as if they wanted to communicate. We know what each was saying:

Feed Me!!!

Well, that's what the feeder in the meadow is for, and it had already tossed the morning grain quota. So we chatted at them for a while, until they got bored with the silly Hoomons and wandered off.

Two barn swallows, a house finch, and a cardinal arrived yesterday. With the windows open, we can hear bird song again. Ahhh...springtime.

Sounds like a new group of deer are trying to train you. I'm glad Spotacus is comfortable. He's a rare joy.
