So the feeder tossed out the corn, and five minutes later, four does were there. I called Leoghaire, and her head popped up and she looked right at me. She looks really good. Doesn't look pregnant, but if she's like MDL, wouldn't really show until Mar and won't drop the fawn until around Memorial Day.
WLToo needed my help to get the feeder back into place after it leaned itself onto his pickup bed, so while I was down there, I visited Alex' and the girls' grave. WLToo started a cairn over it to keep critters from digging. I told him about the old Scots tradition of adding a rock to a cairn each time one visits, so we added some more. It not only keeps the deceased in the ground, but also gets the loose rocks out of the meadow where we mow once or twice a year. Will save on mower blades. I think I'll start a cairn over the kitty who was already here, so no one runs into its metal cross. It's a lot easier to see and avoid a cairn when mowing.
But that's for another time, when I'm home for good...
Got an email from Texas Custom Coach, and they were intrigued. Sent them a prioritized list of what needs to be done, then what we'd like done, and the budget. If they need a video and/or pictures, will do that next. We know that list will cost more than L'Andante is worth, but if we can stay in her until health forces us to stop RVing, it will be so worth it. We just can't find anything else out there that is as comfortable for us. I wish we were as handy as so many other RVers, but that kind of DIY is just not within our abilities.
Meanwhile, the dirt is unloaded for the new raised beds. WLToo still hasn't said what he plans to plant there. Should be interesting.
Time to work on tax paperwork. Later, y'all.

Actually managed to get all sorts of stuff accomplished while home. Heading back to Mom's tomorrow. Short Friend decided to send us off with a breakfast casserole, so I'll get up a little earlier than originally planned to pop it in the oven.
Spotacus has been acting like he wants to pee on stuff, but when we yell, he goes outside. WLToo said he'd not done that since getting home. Not sure why he's doing it the last few days -- litter boxes are clean. Maybe he senses I'm about to leave and is expressing his ire. Who knows what goes on in a cat's brain?
The does are back, now that the feeder is fixed. I expect the meadow will be fawn central again. Hope so, anyway.
Alaska is off the plate for this year, since I have no idea when I can come back home for good. So Tall Friend and Short Friend are looking into campground hosting in a couple of state parks. We'll go up to visit wherever they land, as soon as I can break away from being Mom's cook and chauffeur.
Back to less frequent internet access. Later, y'all.

Glad the does are back. Spotacus is most likely letting you know that he doesn't want to travel and is marking the territory to emphasize that point. "Laters, Mom. See yer when you get back. Bring me a tasty present when yer back home. " ![biggrin [emoticon]](http://www.coastresorts.com/sharedcontent/cfb/images/biggrin.gif)

Mom's eye surgeon released her today. She can get new glasses as soon as she gets an appointment. Next up: Hearing test and hearing aid(s).
We made mini jam tarts today, for Mom's AgriLife extension club. Got the recipe from Outlander Kitchen (put that into the search engine and her blog comes right up). Delicious. Did have to make a few adjustments for high altitude, but they came out fine. I do believe we will not bring any home with us.
Wildfires galore today. Two small towns were evacuated and the Pantex facility was in danger (not the nukes, they're bunkered). The winds are finally dying down, but we're in extreme fire danger for the rest of the week (well, until it finally rains, whenever that might be). I'll be on fire watch.
Mom's asking about bug out kits. Gotta convince her my pickup can't carry all her stuff she's emotionally attached to, and bug out means there's no time to load it. One box/suitcase of the most important family papers/photos is about it. We keep that stuff in a permanent bug out box, and keep it up-to-date, since we also live in a wildfire area.
Anyway, going through the process has convinced her to step up the photo digitization. Much easier to grab a handful of CDs, flash drives, etc.
Time for dessert. Peach jam tarts. Later, y'all.

Yes to bug-out kits! When we were volunteers during Hurricane Katrina and the aftermath. some evacuees ended up (not happily) here in California. We heard about losing a lifetime of ireplaceable photos many times over. Still, when we l had our own evac emergency (wildfire) a few years later, we left home with nothing but our pets.I didn't even grab our meds. Nobody knows what that kind of panic feels like until it happens to them. We have the kit made up now.

Glad things are progressing well for your mom.
Double ditto on bug out kits. Even have an arrangement with friends to do a surprise phone call bug out drill where we grab our stuff and time how long it takes to get to the end of the road. One of those phone calls caught me in the shower with shampoo in my hair. Not a pretty sight. But we can say we're prepared

Winds are negligible today, so firefighters have all the Texas fires under control. The fire in Oklahoma/Kansas is only about 10% contained. A friend lost his childhood home in Kansas.
If any of you are familiar with "Hank the Cowdog" books, the author's ranch burned. Lost every structure but two barns, one horse, some pets, and he's not sure about his cattle yet. Mourning most about losing his extensive correspondence with other authors, such as Herman Wouk and Elmer Kelton.
Beautiful spring day now. Smoke's not in the air here.
Mom couldn't get her hearing tested; ears were full of wax. We're doing the wax softening drops. She can already hear much better out of one ear, so we could lower the TV volume. She does need hearing aids, but not being all plugged with wax helps a bit.
I think the bacon's defrosted. Time to start assembling the dinner ingredients: wilted baby spinach salad with hot bacon dressing, and loaded baked potatoes.
Later, y'all.

It's been misting all day, which is a huge help to the firefighters.
It's also triggered Mom's and my baking instincts. She's making a banana bread recipe she found in her cast iron cookbook. I'm working on how to do up the leftover fresh spinach from the other day -- thinking a nice Sabsa Borani would work.
The only wildlife visible today has been the mourning doves and the Angus across the fence. Wind's up now, with the second cold front rolling in. Mom is kind of hoping it will kill off the apricot tree buds. She doesn't really want to harvest more apricots.
Not much going on here, so I'll go fry up spinach. Later, y'all.

Sabsa Borani is an Afghani spinach dish. Here's one recipe (not the one I use, but close enough):
