Short of reading 100 pages of what transpired between finding the cat and now he's named Spotacus and you've kept him, what happened? Why did he have a major personality change? I thought he was a nice people person kitty to begin with? Can you give me the short and long of it? Thanks!

Spotacus was sort of friendly inside the house, but mostly only to me and sometimes to WLToo and Nephew 2. Outside, he would wind himself around pretty much anyone, so long as they didn't try to pick him up or pat him anywhere except on top of his head. When excited, he'd bite. Hard.

Now he's all loving to everyone. Having a 17-pound lap kitty is interesting, to say the least...

We're not planning on getting another cat. We like the way Spotacus has blossomed into Mr. Friendly and don't want to muck that up with inter-feline conflicts. Doesn't mean another cat could rescue itself the way Spotacus did, but us humans won't actively seek out another cat.

Mom's cataract surgery went very well. She has no doctor appointments for several weeks, so instead of Short Friend coming up here, I'm taking Mom home with me next week and we'll drive back up a couple days before her next doctor appointment. Almost three weeks in my own home -- that's a good anniversary gift.

Time for Mom's next round of eye drops. Later, y'all.

Thanks for the update! I'm so glad Spotacus worked out to be Mr. Friendly.

Good news is great. We had a cat who brought home a homeless kitten. It was her idea to keep that kitten who was thereafter known as Hera's Girl or Girl for short. Don't know what happened to the mother or sibs. One of those mysterious things that happened. Hera was a regal black and white and Girl was a plain black.

The surgeon who fixed Mom's knee and ankle released her today. No more visits there. She's packed and almost ready for me to load the pickup. I don't have to take much of anything myself, since I have the winter clothes here and all my other clothes at home. I will pack up a few items we brought up and haven't needed, but looks like the pickup will not be heavily loaded...

Rained early this morning, turned into an almost whiteout snowstorm for several hours, and now it's clearing off to the west. I guess the afternoon rain that was forecast isn't gonna happen.

Time to start loading. This time tomorrow, I expect to be holding Spotacus. Later, y'all.

I'm HOOOMMMMEEE!!! It's only for a couple weeks, but at least I'm home for a bit.

Spotacus has been sleeping on my side of the bed, where I would normally be. I came in, called him, and he woke up and looked a little confused. When I started petting him, he fully woke up and started a very loud purr. Then he followed me around all evening, jumping on me whenever I sat down, and being really, really affectionate.

Not sure how affectionate he'll be when I boot him out of my normal sleeping spot...

Did Spotacus share the bed or did he wage protest?

He's sleeping between our pillows, and occasionally up against me with his head on my pillow. His routine now is to not join us until after the light's out. Then he jumps up, walks across us both, and eventually kneads biscuits on me until he falls asleep.

Sleeping between the pillows is apparently so comfortable that he doesn't even get up with us. The last few days, he's spent most of it in bed. He feels fine; he's just sleeping a lot, which is to be expected of a tom over age 7.

Haven't seen any sign of Leoghaire since I got home. WLToo is picking up more corn tomorrow. Hope the noise of loading the feeder will bring the does back.

Short Friend, Mom and I met Sister at the San Antonio Upholstery Fabrics warehouse. Wow. I saw leather at such a reasonable price that I'm taking WLToo down to choose replacements for our "bonded leather" (read: fake) recliners. They're cracking and tearing and the finish is wearing off. Basically, they look like the **** fabric they are.

I'll let WLToo choose whatever color leather he wants, then I'll pick either the deep red or cordovan color for mine -- I loved the buckskin, but that's too light for a chair that also hosts a large cat who drools. Then we'll have to find an upholsterer to redo them, as neither of us feels real confident about redoing chairs.

While we were talking about the Alaskan trip we still want to take, Short Friend suggested we look into rehabbing L'Andante, rather than look for a brand new Class A. Long story, but neither one of us is a trailer person. Steinholz is a very nice trailer, but just not doing it for us.

What I want in a Class A is L'Andante with a couple of minor changes and one major change (double pane windows). Got WLToo interested enough that I contacted Texas Custom Coach to see if they can give me an estimate. If we can live with that, Steinholz will go up for sale. Anyone want a very nice 2016 Rockwood 2906WS, Biltmore color scheme? Only about 1500 miles on it.

Spotacus has acknowledged my existence only twice today. Must not be happy that I was gone all day. Wonder how he'll feel when Mom and I go back next Saturday?

Still no Leoghaire, or anyone else. WLToo and Tall Friend are going for deer corn in the morning and will replace the feeder batteries. Then the sound should bring them back.

Meanwhile, the wildflowers have begun blooming a little early. It's been such a mild winter here that everything is growing already. WLToo has beaucoup radishes and potatoes in the garden already, and will plant who knows what as soon as he gets more dirt for the new planters he built today. Gonna be a very nice spring garden. I hope I'll be here to can some of it.

Spotacus is calling from outside. Must go see. Later, y'all.

It's likely the mild winter (along with your frequent absences) that is keeping the deer away. They have plenty of food available, so they have no need to come there.
