Magnus, I would not be at all surprised at Spotacus being Klingon. He might need an appropriate Klingon rank in the DOTL...
I believe the feline Klingon reply to you is "Blert!"
Mom's cataract surgery is next Friday at o'dark early, followed by an eye doctor office visit. Then she'll have a month of various eye drops before she can get her new glasses.
Next on the list: hearing aids.

I call cataract surgery "the happiest surgery of all!" The way they do it now, you don't even disrobe, just take off shoes. and then you walk out of the operating room into a whole new world of light. We don't even know how much we're missing until that "veil" is lifted. I remember marveling at white paper, white refrigerator, etc, when everything had been beige. Okay, the drops are a bit of a pain, but otherwise this surgery is a miracle. How lucky we are to live in a time when it is possible and even routine.

WLToo sent a text. We think Spotacus has had a major personality change -- or an identical cat has taken his place.
Spotacus now asks to go in/out, uses the litter box, has become super affectionate, climbs up on WLToo's lap and gives him head bumps, and wallows all over Short and Tall Friends. This is not the same cat...
When he gives head bumps, it hurts. I can just imagine the bruises on WLToo's chin now.
It's pretty clear he likes being an only cat.
Mom gets her cataract fixed early in the morning. Then it's eyedrops for a month before she can get her new glasses prescription. Only then will we know if she can continue to live here by herself.
Meanwhile, Short Friend is coming up next week to spell me. I'm going home to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary, then will come back. Such a good friend, she is.
Supper time. Later, y'all.

Maybe he's just lonely without Alex, and wants more attention. I don't doubt he'll get it.

Short of reading 100 pages of what transpired between finding the cat and now he's named Spotacus and you've kept him, what happened? Why did he have a major personality change? I thought he was a nice people person kitty to begin with? Can you give me the short and long of it? Thanks!

I think Spotacus is just stepping up to be Top Cat. My older cat has always been the more affectionate cat and my younger cat has always been more standoffish to me. I'm just the food lady to her. But my older cat has cancer and as it progresses and he spends less time with me, my younger cat is becoming more affectionate to me. It's like my older cat had a claim on me that kept my younger cat from claiming me.
I think Spotacus is now free to fully claim you. I wonder if when you get another cat, if it will be the less affectionate cat because of Spotacus's claim and position as Top Cat.

BTW, Wanderlost -
Glad to hear that you get to go home for a bit. It is so hard to be away for so long.
And Happy Anniversary!
