Have you seen the write up Jim or I posted on the modified fuel system to include the filter? I think Jim posted it.

As a by-the-by, I added a tubing allowing me to give my Honda a snort of starting fluid. I have found it to beneficial if I have not started my Honda for a few weeks and it is cold outside.

Hey Wayne...that also sounds like a good idea. I too have a problem starting mine in the cold. I haven't seen the write-up, do you have a link to it?

I was talking about the fuel filter write up. I can figure out the starting fluid hose.

The starting fluid hose is totally independent from the fuel filter. I thought Jim or I did a fuel filter write up.

I will see what I can find.

Wayne, have you found that the filter has helped? Secondly, you mentioned it being a water trap, is that an issue with these?

Thanks Jim.

After all this time, I cannot say the filter for a water trap is a major reason to install the filter. Only one time can I honestly say I had a substantial amount of water in the filter. I made the mistake of filling the tank with fuel from a 5 gallon can that had been sitting for a while and was almost empty. I know better than to pour the last drop from any fuel contained. Just asking for trouble. I have had to remove garbage from the filter.

I think the loop in the fuel line is a big plus. I have seen syrup looking stuff in the bottom of the loop. I still wonder how it gets past the filter.

I do not recall having to remove and clean out my carburetor since I have made the filter modification. I made the mod in such a way I can remove the mod by loosening two hose clamps and reconnect the OEM hoses. If I ever open it up again, I will remove the OEM filter from the fuel tank.

I have added a fuel shutoff, but never use it. I have also added a piece of tubing from the bottom of the air cleaner to the bottom of the Honda, beside the float bowel drain. When it is exceptionally cold, and/or I have not started the Honda for a while I can easily give it a snort of starting fluid by simply spraying in to the tubing. No need to remove the front cover.

scootsk, the filter/tubing loop has helped. I do not recall having to clean my carburetor since I made the modification. Could be I am simply paying more attention handling my fuel. But, how do you avoid the ethanol and the syrup it it brings with it? Can't easily be avoided in California. I do think the added fuel filter stops smaller particles than the OEM filter.

Thanks for the info. Looks like a nice piece of insurance and a simple mod to possibly lessen the amount of times we have to clean these finicky carbs.
