Thanks for the reminders about the Rio Grande River... we have probably passed over it more than any river west of the Mississippi... including where the road goes Los Alamos, NM... that probably being the furthurest up stream for us... maybe unknowingly crodded it in Colorado
Best experience... we camped beside a 5' wide section of the Rio Grande south west of Big Bend NP.... on the way west to Presidia. No fenses, nothing... just pulled off and did it.
and of couse seen the concrete dry riverbed at the Border crossin Park in El Paso.

We will be returning home by heading North from Lake charles to Alexandria, Louisana then haading toward Nanchez, MS and then North following the Missippi River... staying in Louisana as log as possible. The camper took a beating on Mississippi roads on the way south... I'm not in a forgiving mood.

We entered MS finally, crossing the I-20 bridge into Vicksburg.
You notice there are no pictures up to this point...
Distracted driving is bad enough when you are constantly looking for road hazards....
Janet can no longer handle the camera.... and shes to the point she can't see things in detail....
We are in the Vicksburg Welcome Center looking back at the I-20 bridge over the Mississippt (I can handle the camer here)

Janet as spunky as ever.... hurtin bad.
We took time to look at the displays in the welcome center. Very southern...
I was contracted to inspect and possibly help purchase a Oil Refinery here in 1998... Janet came here with me.... we stayed 11 days....
I took a Saturday afternoon off and we spent all of it in the Civil War Battle field... it is one of the best (and of course worst). Itis a National Park.
They hace also recovered the Yankee ironclad ship the Cario and are restoring it
You'll have to take my word for it but it is well worh visiting.

We drove 2 miles down stream to the Barrett Oil Refinery to see what had happened to it.... it was a HazMat site in trouble with RCRA and the Mississippi Dept of Enviromental Quality.
The people that I was working for wanted the storage tanks and the deep water port on the Mississippi... ehey were contaminated with Benzene.... it was no problem to them they were shipping BTX.
I met some nice people and got paid well....
Haz Mat lawsuits made it an undoable deal for the people that I was working for..
