[b]I have also just spoken to Michelle of ABC Campground who had spoken to Richard earlier. As Lynn said, Old Fella seems to be stabilized. Apparently there were a lot more heartworms than was expected. As they died off, some ended up in Old Fellas lungs, creating an infection. Let's hope the vet has it under control. :)

Okay I am up and running again. Dr. Gradous says Old Fella is doing better than I am right now! I am a nervous wreck, stayed up all night with Old Fella as he labored breathing and a couple of times I had to compress his chest to keep him breathing. It was about 2 in the morning when things began to really get bad and the poor thing couldn't even lift his head. He knew I was there and would reach out with his paw to touch me and be reassured he wasn't alone. I prayed so hard and I could feel the prayes of others also.

This morning he seemed to be doing much better so he went outside and when he came back in he ate some of his food and seemed to be better, then it started all over again. So a quick call to the vet and off we went. By the time Old Fela and I got there he was breating better again but very labored. Dr Gradous gave him some shots and immediately you could see him starting to get better. Right now all is well and I just hope and pray that it stays that way. I don't think I can stand another crisis right now.

Thank you for all of your prayes and support. You are a special bunch of people and I love each and every one of you.

Richard - When you get that banner today you show Old Fella and tell him that he has more friends praying for him than he will ever know. This may sound silly, but I asked my pets at the Rainbow Bridge to give him support last night and tell him they're just not ready for him. [emoticon]

lynno62 - I think I speak for many of us when I say thanks for the update. I had mentioned on another thread that I have really been missing my old girls this week. Not sure why - not a birthday, or anything. Just think as the weather is cooler and we are all inside more, and she just isn't there. I think it would break my heart if Old Fella has problems now after all of this.

Hold on and have faith. Years ago, my husband and I had a dog named Trigger that had to be treated for heartworm. She did not have eggs in her blood at the time they tested her at the shelter, but had heartwoem in her heart. She reacted to preventive heartworm pills. That is how we found out. The heartworm treatment was well worth the time we could have with her. It so wonderful that your dog has your comfort and is not out in the wilderness alone. Things may seem rough now, but your dog has hit the doggie lottery in finding you. You will have that with you forever.

Dixieflyer,
Thanks for the update. Keep letting Old Fellow know that you are there. Give him hope to continue to fight this.

DH and I had a pup that was on death's doorstep and the vet gave us that precious advise. We visited every night, after clinic hours (we weren't allowed overnight).

He lived an adventurous camping life for six years with us. Give Old Fellow a pat on the paw from us telling him more prayers are being said.

Michelle
