Calculating the kennel cost and what is remaining to be done medically my estimate is we are just $250.00 away from taking care of Old fellow with what we have received as of this post {$300.00}. If I give $50.00 then that makes us $200.00 away. So what do you think, can we do it?

By the way, I talked with our local news paper this morning and told them Old Fellow's story and when Old Fellow is ready for adoption they are going to run a feature article on him with pictures to see if someone local will adopt him. This is all like a fairy tale come true.

I have been reading for 30 min to get this all read. What a wonderful story.
My emotions have been all over the place about this. WOW.

I took in an old (at least 15 yrs) blue heeler dog in spring of 2004. He had an okay life for a while but his caregiver had a heart attack and was sent to live in a nursing home. This man had started taking care of the dog when the owners died. He was a farm hand for them and had known the dog since he was a puppy. The old man had two dogs. One lived at another abandoned house and got run over after a while, by the guy that was feeding him. Very sad. I fed Buckwheat where he was living for a while. He was blind and on a chain. I let him off the chain every day but just couldn't stand it. One day I got a little spooked by some car tracks in the drive way of the abandoned house. I decided it was time to bring Buckwheat home with me. Our blue heeler dog did his best to make Buckwheat unwelcome but he eventually decided it wasn't worth arguing about it. I kept Buckwheat as happy as I could. He ate good senior food, got a supplement for the obvious arthritis, got dewormed and vaccinated. He was blind as a bat but soon figured his way out of the dog pen to do his business and get back in there to lay in his dog house. He lived with us for just over a year. One day he just didn't get up and was unresponsive, I had to euthanize him. We buried him back at his old home place next to the other dog and made him a nice marker. I really miss the old guy and I think our dog does to some extent.

In memory of Buckwheat I thank you, and old and not so old stray dogs all over the world thank you. I really think that you are a wonderful person for taking responsibility for Old Fellow.

Gotta go get some more kleenex and dry up the tears of joy.

Thanks for sharing the story and I will be looking for updates.

Come on people, this vet is giving a lot of his time and cutting his costs to help Dixiflyer, and old fellow. so far Dixie said we have $300.00 to help old fellow, I know what I donated, and with another 75.00 donation, that is about 3/8 to a 1/2 of what was raised so far.
I know money does not grow on trees, but just think of a pack/carton of cigs, or a case of beer, anything would help old fellow. Just think of what this would be costing if the vet was not being so generous with his time and talents. lets all help him out. think of all the posts and views on this thread if everyone just donated a little, we could get this done.
Mickey,Brandy(may she rest in peace)and I are pleading with everyone reading to please help.
Thank you.

Don't you think this would make a super Disney family movie?!?!?!? I have it pictured like "You've Got Mail," with all the main posters going back and forth through the Forum....mixed with "Because of Winn Dixie."

Old Fellow could star, himself!

I hope we get to see the newspaper article!

By Monday Old Fellow's stitches will be healed enough to give him a day out of the kennel. I am going to bring him home to our nice fenced back yard and spend some quality time with him. Through all of this he has remained just as humble as can be. Dr. Gradous says he hasn't fought them on any treatment. It breaks my heart that he doesn't know how to play nor how to smile {show a happy face}, but I guess he still doesn't believe all of his good fortune.

I am going to wait until he is ready to adopt before running the newspaper article which will be in about two weeks. I will be glad to send copies to anyone who wants one. Our local newspaper is a small one and only comes out once a week so they are not on line. I am just hoping someone will respond to the article who will want to adopt Old Fellow and take very good care of him. I made him a promise I intend to keep and that he will never be mistreated again.

The name of the news paper is The True Citizen and Bonnie Taylor is the Chief Editor and she has a very big heart. I showed her some pictures and some of the post in the forum and told her Old Fellow's story and she agreed immediately to publish an article.
