Nice to hear from so many tent campers. It goes back many generations in my family. My grandfather was a backpacker before the name was invented. Before that the family mostly went camping with a wagon. Tents have been a way of life for over a century.
Backpacking tents are good because they go everywhere. I use a tarp mostly now. "The best roof is the sky." Colin Fletcher.
For longer trips I like the wall tent with a stove. I have tipi poles set up in the backyard. Also a Baker tent and a Whelen leanto.

I've read a lot of descriptions and watched a ton of videos on the contents of people's bug out bags.
The one thing I have yet to see is someone using their camping bag/gear as their BOB.
Back country camping gear includes the basics: bag, tent, sleeping bag, food, can opener, water filter, clothes, knife, sleeping pad, misc supplies such as duck tape, compass, pencil/paper, headlamp, spare batteries, first aid kit etc etc.
Am I missing something if I have a packed camping bag ready to go as my BOB? Why hasn't anyone used this?
Also, I've seen a lot of focus on neat little gadgets for their BOB, but not nearly as much on food. Most BOB's I see have 1-2 MREs in them. Wouldn't it be better to ditch some of the neat little gadgets and stick to the basics - food, water, shelter, survival (weapons for protection etc)?
I'm not criticizing people at all! I'm just trying to understand why people are focusing on the contents they are. And also trying to figure out why very few our outdoors folks around here seem to be using their backcountry pack/gear as their BOB.

Hello everyone!Hopefully everyone is healthy. I did my trip to Florida, wonderful time. I loved Dickinson and rebooked the same site for next year. Also I am going back to St. Lucie South (booked a tent site again). Took a guided paddle trip on the river, visited lots of good restaurants, bowled as a guest in nearby leagues, took the dogs to a dog friendly beach. So much to do. One night it dropped into the thirties. My brother who lives nearby begged me bunk with him (I have two dogs so easier and more socially responsible to camp)but I had an electric heater and was very snug. Then off to the keys. Spent a week there. Probably would not have returned to keys but visited friends and that was nice. Went up the west coast and visited friends in Wimaumee. We visited the Ringling Museum. That was just such a surprise. All I can say is google it, its not just a circus museum. Finished off with a 6 day stay at Hilton Head in a waterfront resort (yes it was nice to have a bed and shower in one place!) One thing I noticed everywhere was an abundance of small camping units. Even among my generation. My neighbors in NH have a 40 foot motorhome. The wife wont drive it, its like an act of congress to get something fixed under warantee and they are trying to sell it after 3 years. Anyway I'm staying small. Had to retire my tent to the dumpster this year, got a great deal on a Eureka Copper Canyon. Already had it out to Lake George, NY! Off to Maidstone Lake next week! Happy Camping!

A bug out bag is the thing survivalists obsess about. They tend to be big and heavy. People go on trips with them and their knees can't take and they limp home early.
Meals Ready to Eat are what people that can't cook bring to eat in the bush. they are heavy, they have lots of salt and preservatives.
