I love tenting. I try to bring the least amount of stuff for a lighter backpack. No air mattress or anything just a small sleeping bag.
I've never had a 10, but I have had....

Wow, you really are a minimalist. I always loved my Thermarest air mattress under the sleeping bag, but when you are backpacking the lighter the better.

Campin in my family goes back around 5 generations. We all grew up in it. It is not possible to take an RV to all the good places, so I still run rivers, and backpack each year in tents. This fall we went to Yosemite and took the old wall tent and a wood stove. It was very comfortable. The young people had never seen anything like it. Nothing like a canvas tent with the wood stove going in bad weather.
I like RVs, but it will be a long time until I give up tent camping. At 68 it is in the blood. This idea that people tent camp and then there is a progression to RVs only seems lame to me.

Good for you! I have 10 years on you (78) and haven't done any camping at all in a few years. This year I'd like to try camping in a tent again, and try out a new sleeping bag and pad that I recently bought. Gypsy

Same here. Going on 63, but not only do we have a fifth wheel, and a popup to tow behind our Jeep, but have a fully stocked tent too.

I am 63. Got rid of rv, couldn't justify the pick up payments since I retired and don't have to boom out for work. I bought a small cargo trailer which I pull behind a Ford Edge. If I camp for a week or more I may set up a tent for a little more room. If not I have a bed, fridge, solar panels in/on the trailer. In the tent I like to sleep on an air mattress, makes all the difference at my age.
I want to share a few nice spots I found to tent camp in FL. Ocala National Forest near any of the springs. Alexander Springs, Salt Springs and Juniper Springs. All have nice swimming areas with NO alligators! Hiking trails etc. Salt Springs had about 25 full hookups for walkups and more you can reserve. And about 50 tent sites!Nice shaded area. Another one I enjoyed which is much easier to book than the hookup sites is St Lucie South on the St Lucie River in Stuart. The few hookup sites are nearly impossible to reserve but there are 3 tent sites right on the water. Not much sought after. You park right across from site, Lots of boats and wildlife you can enjoy from your site. OK showers. Nice picnic areas and trails.

The best places are not reachable by road. That means a tent. You can walk, you can take a boat, or you can a horse or mule.
I have a 39 year old wall tent, a 16 foot tipi and several nylon tents. Also a Whelen lean to and a canvas Baket tent.

^^^^^^^^^ Thanks for sharing. We camped at Juniper Springs and would definitely return. Will have to give the others a look next time we're down that way.

I am a fan of RV. It's my pleasure to be here.
That's why you go away!
