This engine is more sensitive to maintenance than the gassers I had and an engine monitor is essential for this engine. Whereas the 6.8L could get an avg of 8 mpg towing and 16 mpg empty this 6.0L can get 23 mpg empty and 12 towing the same trailer at the same speed. This comes with using fuel additives, cold weather warm up, plugging up, turbo cool down time, maintenance cost, fuel availability, smell/noise, etc. My TT is around 9K loaded if it was 8K or less I would probably stick with a gasser that I could use as a DD but if I towed heavier and/or more miles I can say I would stay definitely diesel.

Well the 6.0 is a strong puller, and the ones that don't self destruct can be good. The are HIGH MAINTENANCE and the maintenance items are costly.

To me is sounds like Rowekmr went into this with his eyes open and knew the 6.0 could be troublesome, and took steps to prevent issues.

I will still take my Cummins, but to each their own.

Yes it is a great engine and pulls great. It is a high maintenance engine as you say but it also loves to rev like a gas motor, one of the main reasons I love towing with an oil burner.

Wow if the worst diesel (ever made) makes an almost 50% increase in mpg's then I can't wait for you to suggest the one that gets much better mpg's than that. That was my main consideration next to price of truck in switching.

Gas great, diesel bad smelly, oily, dirty, cost more. keeps carpet dirty in RV.

I have pulled with both. Hands down diesel wins my vote. Stinky, noisy, can't get much better than that.

I think he just meant on the reliability / cost of maintenance side.

A diesel tech on another forum says as long as you don't tune a 6.0 and take care of it, it's a good engine.
If you put in studs and a few other things he says they're great.

He also says the Fords and Chevys are what keeps money in his pocket as he doesn't see many Cummins...

Why get 3 or 4 hundred thousand miles on diesel engines and lost the trans at 2 hundred thousand miles on all model's, sometimes $15,000 to fix.
