Sometime tomorrow (11-13) a 2013 Silverado 2500HD, CC, standard box, rear wheel drive, with Duramax should be arriving at the local dealer with my name on it. Barring any unforeseen glitches, I should take delivery in the next few days. $7,500 in rebates and a nice GM retiree discount just made it too appealing.
Thanks to all of you for sharing your wisdom and experience. A lot of you have been a big help and it's greatly appreciated.
Keep a close eye on your TT, as for as light as it is, you may not notice if you drop it.
You're right about that, I'll have to keep checking to see if it's back there.... but it's a little early to start talking to the other half about a new TT.

Even I am beginning to rethink the diesel advantage. It may be long gone at least with the Ford's as compared to the reliable gassers. I still love the diesel, I think you just have to like it and put up with it to have one.

Once you have a Duramax, you will probably never go back to a gasser tow rig.
I know I never will. In fact, I want a second Duramax now.

Yep...this is it. Thank you. I love it more every time I drive it. I had the camper mirrors, the black 6" oval steps, the fender flares, and wind deflectors over the windows added.
GM Retiree discount? Right at $5k, plus $7,500 in rebates...more than paid for the Duramax.
I Delco (GM) now Delphi. Started out in plating back when they made push-button radios in the late 70s and then circuit board fabrication in the 80s (dirty nasty work...lots of hazardous chemicals) Moved to silicon wafer fab in the 90s, then retired from chip placement.
If you have a GM vehicle between 1980 and 2006 there's a pretty good chance we made some of the circuit boards or processors.
Juicy stories? I should write a book....

Well after owning a few older gassers for towing my TT in sig I finally went "diesel". My previous TV's were 2 V10's, 3 7.4L's and a 5.4L (32v). The first one an Excursion V10 (80K and 4.30 gear) I put the most miles in and $$$ making sure it was in tip top shape. I drove from IL to FL and back a few times with no problems except the soft trans shift and it would sometimes kick out of OD under slight load needlessly. I was able to hold 67+ mph in OD most of the way to FL except in the Chattanooga mountains where it went down to 2nd gear to hold 50 mph. It ran pretty trouble free just needing a few COP's and standard maintenance. The 7.4L's were cheaper trucks (2 Burbs, 1 3500 CC DRW) I bought to pull locally on flatlands. They had more low end torque but lacked the upper end like the V10, their only problem were the hot start issues (bad OEM inj design) that I never addressed. The 5.4L (32v) was an attempt to have a DD and TV in one vehicle (Navigator) but the suspension wasn't up to the task for heavy towing. Looking to go diesel I originally considered the 6.5L but they are harder to find in good condition and their asking prices were close to what I can get a high mile 7.3L's for. While looking for a 7.3L CC or Ex I stumbled unto a 6.0L that I couldn't pass up. After fixing some common issues and replacing worn/bad parts and few slight upgrades I'm just now enjoying trouble free driving. This engine is more sensitive to maintenance than the gassers I had and an engine monitor is essential for this engine. Whereas the 6.8L could get an avg of 8 mpg towing and 16 mpg empty this 6.0L can get 23 mpg empty and 12 towing the same trailer at the same speed. This comes with using fuel additives, cold weather warm up, plugging up, turbo cool down time, maintenance cost, fuel availability, smell/noise, etc. My TT is around 9K loaded if it was 8K or less I would probably stick with a gasser that I could use as a DD but if I towed heavier and/or more miles I can say I would stay definitely diesel.

You bought one of the worst diesels ever made to compare to the gassers.
