Are you saying weight has no bearing on towing ability? An extra 6k in weight is going to make a difference. Horsepower is a calculation of torque, torque is measurable and is what turns my tires on the way to the top. As far as I am concerned HP ratings are bogus numbers.............See you at the top of the hill, after I wait up for ya!!!!!

2003 Jayco 308fbs eagle 33' tt, towed by a 2003 Ram 3500 slt, quad cab dually, cummins diesel ho, trailer towing package, with 6 speed manual. Hauls better 1/2, 3 kids, myself, and a 2003 ez go clays car.. I have added so far, neon lights, clearance lights, back up lights, black light, lift kit, mud tires, and everything necessary to make the golf cart street legal. It's now ready to spend the winter in the garage for more mods. More neon, strobe lights, alarm, a pa system, maintance, and whatever else that comes along. This golf cart does wheelies and travels thru 7 inches of mud when need be. Two honda eu2000i gens twinned to supply the electrical power. Latest addition an 04 Honda Goldwing. Well let us know how it goes when you pull 14K up a hill! I think that gasser of yours will be in for a big surprise unless you are running at least 4.10's or lower, you don't have the torque!

yes i get 12.5 pulling our 5er, and no I did not take a loss selling the 04HD 6.0 and I also only have 85k on the current truck odometer, I guess the big 3 are all idiots for selling and employing thousands for making diesels trucks because TACO said so. hell taco should of got a VW buss because they a cheaper and hook up a popup to it and hit the roads because his reasoning is if I spend my hard earned money to buy whatever I want it is wrong and folish. taco BTW I am coming down this summer to VA beach in tow and we can line up empty and see who is faster at sea level and with both trailers hooked up

if yours was stock I would out pull you on a grade. I see that you needed more power so you modified it. yours most likely makes more horsepower now so I would expect you to win.

trying to explain the gearing and how it multiplies torque to a diesel owner is like explaining physics to a chimp. anyways the truck with more horsepower given appropriate gearing will tow faster up a grade.

I try and stay on the sidelines after watching this thread beat the same horse to death over and over again, but sometimes a comment pops up and I can control myself. Your saying your 6.0 gas will out pull a 6.6 Duramax? Are you high?

Don't know about the 6.0 GM vs the 6.6L Dmax but my 345hp/365ftlbs '05 Hemi powered 2500HD Ram towed our previous 10,400 lb 5th wheel up the grades faster than our 250hp/460 ftlbs '03 2500HD Ram. With horsepower you can make torque through gear reduction. That extra 100 hp made a pretty big difference at highway speeds.

Here we go again Hannibal, comparing apples to oranges. I have told you before I believe, I will be more than happy to meet you somewhere with my stock '05 cummins and we can do some test runs. Your 345 hp/365 lbft against my 325 hp/610 lbft. I'll bring my 18,000# trailer and you can pick the 500 mile route.

I see you now have a 2010 5.4 Ford? 320 hp? even better comparison. You should have the 6 speed trans, better for you. I'm still up for the test, are you?

I will give anyone here who claims torque is more important than horsepower one million dollars if he can answer this simple question with a hard number: how much TORQUE is required to pull a 14,000lb load up a 5% grade at 60MPH?

The answer, of course, is that the torque number is irrelevant. Horsepower (and gearing to apply it properly) determines the speed up a grade, not torque.

Spot on. Exactly correct in all respects.

The problem here is simple: too many people failed basic physics.

Who the bleep cares..does it do the job safely or not? It's like a fricken pissing match to which no side is going to convince the other so why bother....no one is going to take the test...again why bother. I don't care what people think anymore....I love my earth day truck and at the end of the day all that matters. But since your going to continue anyway I've got a 6-pack and popocorn ready....
