just a quick note saying how much I LOVE a diesel engine. Towed my camper up to the mountains and back Was able to maintain speed up the grade and managed to get very decent fuel mileage. I will probably never go back to gas for towing. Unload i get around 17 mpg mixed city and highway!

Here in Az the Phx area gets most of the fuel from Ca. How can it be piped all the way here and sold for $1.00 less than in Ca?? It's not difficult to see who is screwing the public over there.
PLEASE PLEASE Don't get me going on politics! LOL!!
Yep, I live in CA. The State is totally broke thanks to Liberal Fiscal irresponsibility. You want to try rolling a red light turn these days!... Phewwww you'd better get another mortgage on the house (Oh sorry I forgot, you can't get a mortgage these days!)
PLEASE Arizona.. will you PLEASE PLEASE let me Immigrate to your great State?
There we go.. it's off my chest.. now.... Back to Trucks!

I just went right by him in my chevy 6.0 gasser.
No point to this post, just what happened this morning. Everyone knows what the problem is with those engines.
So a gasser can pass a disabled Diesel going up a hill? You are right, pointless. What is the problem with those engines?
the white smoke was a injector stuck open, and the 6.0 has a prob with EGR coolers leaking into the intake which the steam pops the head gaskets, as for the 6.0 chevy I had one and it towed like a turd, after the first time going up a rather large bridge and I thought the motor was going to come apart from the RPM to maintain 65mph I went out and bought a brand new Dmax

My 2012 6.0 will pull my 8k up any hill I have presented to it in the mountains of west virginia plenty fast enough for me without coming close to the redline.
I have spent considerable time in michigan and think I know what bridge you are talking about. anyways congrats on spending 10k+ to go over a bridge that takes about a minute or less to cross and to tow around an otherwise pancake flat state. Must be nice to have money to spend foolishly.

I bet you 10 bucks I spend less for my 06 brand new then you paid for you 2012 and I also pull in the mountains of kentucky, wva, va,tenn, and planning to going to montana and then down to phoenix thru the rockies with our 13k 5er, lets see your 6.0 do that, it prob would but I would not want to do it and I also towed my entire house hold goods in 05 from MD to MI and the hills on 70 killed that truck with 7-8k behind it. I made that trip 6 times with that trailer loaded and hated it everytime plus getting 9mpg sucked

Not my fault you are not willing to drive your gasser properly. Downshift and let it rev. If pulling a long grade with a' 5er means kicking down and spinning RPM...then it does, it's fine. Won't hurt anything.

You may have spent less for your 06 but I have a truck that is 6 years newer. and in 06 I could have bought a 6.0 gas for less than your truck. I don't really see how it applies. Foolishly speaks to the fact that you got rid of a perfectly good truck which I'm sure you took a loss on to spend a rather large upcharge for another truck. The gm 6.0 will tow 13k if you need it to. Might get a little slow in higher elevations where the diesels turbocharged engine really shines but it will do the job.
Yes 8 mpg sucks but the diesel will never pay for itself in my use in lower fuel costs. The price you pay for the diesel engine will buy lots of fuel. My truck will pull any interstate grade you will find short of the high elevation ones in the rockies at 62 mph at 3800 rpm so at about 60% of redline. I wouldn't call this killing the truck by any means. 20 years ago you could buy a truck with a 3 speed auto and a 4.56 rear and you would turn those kind of rpm for hours straight to go 65 down the interstate. People back then just weren't so scared of rpm.

Taco, will your 6.0 pull 14K as well as it pulls 8K??
You might look at what Jevanb is pulling with his Dmax!
Sorry that 6.0 gasser is fine for lighter loads, but doesn't have the torque to move the big loads.
Yes the cost savings take a while to make up, unless it is a Daily Driver.
In addition 8 mpg as opposed to 12 mpg (not stated, but about right) means that Jevanb is getting 50% better fuel mileage and likely only speeding 10% more than regular gas.
Driven both with the same trailer, 460 (7.5 liter) F250, and 5.9 (359 ci.) Cummins 460 had 148K miles, the Cummins had 234K miles 100 ci less engine and the difference of night and day, the Cummins had no issue holding speed on hills.

My truck will pull up a grade faster than an 06 duramax stock for stock because it has more horsepower. Doesn't matter if it is 8k or 14k.
