Just an opinion. The diesel trucks are lets say on average at least $10,000 more even in a used truck over a comparable gas engine model. Lets face it I can buy a lot of gasoline for 10,000. Also the weight of the diesel engine effects the hauling capacity so much. The diesel may be rated for more but it weighs more to. And the old adage that diesel last longer. Tell that to my 96 C3500...vortec 454 with 567,000 miles on the original engine. Only 2nd transmission before selling the truck. You may save a little down the road with a diesel but the added price of the truck makes up for any savings. Not flaming and to each his own.

Don't you just love all this bickering?? I sure do but at the end of the day everyone has made their choice for their needs and budget. If one is satisfied with what they have it's all good. Just be safe and have a good time doing it. After all we are all after the same thing. Enjoying the outdoors.
Now someone else etart another arguement so I can join in. This is great!!!!

I use to be a "nay sayer" about the diesel trucks. Too expensive, fuel too expensive.....ect. My gas powered truck can do it all.
Now after owning a diesel truck for a couple of month and have been on two camping trips with our new truck I'm wondering " what took me so long to do the switch".
All you gasoline engine powered truck owners that think their trucks a equal to or better than a diesel powered truck I have one thing to say.
Quit fooling your selfs.

You need to actually read the posts. I do own a diesel truck (my second)...and would not own a new one if you gave it to me. I would pay more to NOT get a diesel. Too expensive, too finicky, too complicated, too thirsty. Diesel power has jumped the shark.

Well there are diesel drivers and diesel owners. The driver expects to treat his diesel like a gasser and be happy. That doesn't work, a diesel is different and those that don't understand that will never like them.
I am a owner I understand the differances on my diesel and a gasser, I drive a Cummins 5.9 and will never go back to gas!
My 5.9 is stronger than my old 460 ford and gets far better fuel mileage and I. Hangs oil half as often.
There are drivers that shod never get a dies as they just don't understand the differances!

Actually I do READ THE POSTS, and for your info the Ram diesel uses the 68RFE and the Hemi powered uses the 66RFE 6 speed automatic transmission. Do you ever do any real research?

God and goddess, I feel like I am trying to explain this to my cats! I do understand the difference between a diesel and a gas engine. I love diesels...but unfortunately, since 2007, they have gotten finicky enough, complicated enough, delicate enough, expensive enough, and thirsty enough that it's just not worth it anymore. I would happily drive a pre-2007 diesel forever. I wouldn't own a post-2007 if you gave it to me.

I have mentioned NOTHING about the transmissions in diesel Rams, except noting that for several years, Hemis used the 5-45RFE while diesels used the 48RE. What in the world are you babbling about?

Okay, okay. I think it's time for everyone to get on their knees, turn towards Augsburg and start bowing to the great Rudolph Diesel.
This ritual should be repeated at the end of every driving day regardless of the fuel we use... ![smile [emoticon]](http://www.coastresorts.com/sharedcontent/cfb/images/smile.gif)
If things don't start getting better we'll have to force the ritual at the beginning of the day as well.
