Excellent....interesting....knowledgeable, and the way I would have done it! But, after three years of research, countless visits to RV dealers around the country, two rentals (one week and three weeks), and hours of internet looking and discussions with current owners, my wife found the model she wanted and we ordered it! The baby is due in 3 months....

As a first time buyer, I am seeking other advice:
1. vehicle insurance and companies (pro/con).
2. Clubs (i.e. which are worthwhile, for what reasons).
3. R.V. park/resort locater(s); books, etc. that rate (and don't rate high because of ad dollars spent).
4. A list of "must haves", for preventive and other maintenance.
Thanks,
Bob

We purchased a 94 Winnebago four years ago, a private sale. We had very few problems with the coach but it didn't have a slide and we needed the extra room for my granddaughters. I decided this year to buy a new 2006 Winnebago class A with two slides. I always wanted a new mho because of all the warranties and because of the fact I wasn't getting someone else's problems. What a big mistake, I had to return the coach to the dealer the next business day after we took deliver because of bad leaks. The amount of hidden damage because of water infiltration was unbelievable. It has been 43 days and the coach is still at the dealers. Winnebago is deciding what to do.
If you think buying new you will have a good chance of having no problems think again. The warranties is only as good as the company that makes the product.

Thank you for your very interesting (to us) information.
We are long time boaters who are looking to take early retirement within the next few months, buy an rv, do some serious travelling, and then settle down to warm weather for 6 mths and back home for 6 mths (Ontario, Canada). If anyone has any more information for us we would definately appreciate hearing from them. We are bouncing between a 5th wheel and class A, new and used. Although we know tons about boating and living aboard, our only experience with rving is a week rental in a Class B a few years ago. All advice will be welcome.

We went looking for the first time yesterday and I found out I am a little short on one end! After a while my knees and legs and hands were killing me! What do people with serious leg, foot, knee problems do? Are there ramps or modified steps, etc out there. I have heard people in wheel chairs RV so what do they use to get in and out of them. Thanks

Toad - Towed Vehicle Query
I will be a first time buyer in 15 days. I will be driving our 2004 Pace Arrow home to Iowa from Florida. I imagine this will be one of the few times we make a trek like this without a toad.
I think I have a good handle on tow bar options for four wheels down. I am having trouble coming to grips with what vehicle to pull. I have a very nice 1999 Buick Regal with low miles and it is my wife's favorite car. It clearly does not fit the mold, nor is it recommended as a good toad. It makes sense to get Saturn or similar vehicle but it won't be nearly the car as good a car as the one I have (and it's paid for). I do not want to consider a dolly.
Question: Am I fooling myself if I think modifications made to a car like this is worth the money, time and effort? Is it too much to spend on an older car that is in very good condition? Please share your thoughts and ideas.

Mr Cox:
I am sorry to be the one to tell you this, but I wish someone would have told me. I had a 2004 Pace Arrow and had nothing but trouble with it. It was in the shop for 9 1/2 of the first 19 months I had it. Fleetwood was non responsive to warranty issues, and the RV dealer I bought from was horrible in every way after the sale.
Please reconsider if at all possible or email me.

We purchased a Travel Trailer to see if we were going to like camping. We do - and we are looking to purchase a used Class A. Where is the best place to look.

So, where is your Pace Arrow today? What model was it? What were the significant problems that you encountered?
Tell me more about your encounters in Nokomis.
Thanks,
Jim
