Verbatim quote sleep doctor...
"You are having in excess of one hundred events per hour"

And here I am reading about folks with single digit events.
I am forced to sleep on my left side with my face pointing down.
My father had it bad as well. But he passed in 1988 before the advent of positive pressure correction.
When my machine smoked I went without for months (México). I bought a Respironics for $125.00 It had 13 hours on it.

Surgeons told me there are no operations to relieve my obstruction. "It would cause more problems than it cures"

I tried sleeping face down (on my stomach) in a hammock. Too uncomfortable.
Emergency sleeping in a recliner wasn't as productive as sleeping on my side. At first I used a bolster behind me to keep me from rolling back.

All of this is from the school of hard knocks

My wife started to have it too.
Where does it come from?

I was told a number of years ago I needed a cpap. Then I thought to myself there is no way I could sleep with a mask strapped to my face with a hose dangling off of it. So I decided against it. Don't know if that was the best decision or not. Think I'll try to lose some weight again that helped with my snoring before.

I've been on a CPAP since March 1997. Would I like to not have to use it, yes, but I like to sleep without the increased possibility of a stroke or heart attack. When I did the sleep study ( 25 events per hour ) they woke me & put me on a CPAP. I felt like a million bucks when I woke the next morning.. yes I was overweight but now maintain a lot lower weight. I think once you get it you got it
There is an alternative device that a dentist must prescribe BUT you have to have completed a sleep study prescribed by a Doctor. Also a throats operation but I have met 3 that have done this and not one was a success.

Unfortunately, sleep apnea is a chronic condition. Mild cases can be improved with lifestyle changes, such as weight loss, an increase in physical activity, or quitting smoking and drinking. However, in all cases, CPAP therapy remains the gold standard for treatment. Though sometimes surgery is required. My friend had to go through it. The recovery took several days. He had to take some Canada drugs and was fine in a short period of time. He sleeps well now.

Everyone can benefit from weight loss. While it is not a cure, it certainly makes things easier. As far as "Inspire" goes, it is not a cure all either. Only certain types of apnea can be helped. I have a neighbor who went through all of the problems that have been mentioned here and finally got some good information from a doctor. He was a good match for the procedure and it is working fine for him.
I just googled "inspire for sleep apnea" and got all sorts of whacky options. I never knew you could order solutions from Amazon. Snake oil sales are still stong. Be careful.

I may be the only nay-sayer here, BUT I tried a CPAP for over a month. Could not find a comfortable mask to use.

I too have sleep apnea and cannot wear the mask. I went through 2 sleep studies about 15 years ago, which I thought were a total waste as I barely slept. I don't know how they determined I had 4 - 14 episodes an hour if I didn't sleep with all the wires hanging off my head, face and body.

I tried the CPAP mask and couldn't sleep. My doctor told me to try wearing it every other night hoping I would eventually get used to it. I could not sleep with something on my face. I tried it for 2 weeks without success. I stuck it in my closet and never tried it again. I sleep on my side now and sleep a little better.

Using a CPAP sucks but it's worth it. 2 weeks is nothing. It took me several years and a couple mask changes to get it figured out.

My recommendation would be to start using it during your afternoon naps. Figure it out in 1 hour long trials day by day.

I quit taking afternoon naps about 65 years ago.
