With all these mutations it is the china gift that keeps on giving.

So far I have been lucky at 74 with heart disease. Always wear my mask everywhere and social distance with alcohol swipes. The VA seems to have different rules who is in line from CDC. Glad I have AARP Plan F and medicare. From dog lover

Many years ago we use to have two beautiful German Shepherds that were brothers but gave them a new home in the country with friends of ours who owned nice farm. They were too large for the apartments we moved into and could not keep them. Before that I owned a wonderful border collie who was killed by senile old neighbors who gave him chicken bones without our knowledge.

Old people have stories and wisdom. I feel it is up to old people to provide a stable foundation for the younger set that is focused solely on "Me Me Me"

My ignorance of who consists the majority of California ICU patients is discouraging. Is it solely the elderly? Young people with complications? Our news reporting system is angering. Pure percentages and totals with no real information. It is a damning indictment against the "media" I can find no information about this statistic.

México has received it's first shipments today of the Pfizer vaccine targeted to medical personnel.

Down here the released info en español is there are lots of 40-50 year olds on oxygen. My on-leave housekeeper's 22 year old daughter is not getting worse. Slight fever and cough. I am going to ask the housekeeper to get a COVID19 test. If I read the report and it is negative she can come back to work. Her daughter tested positive almost 4 weeks ago.

Hi all,

The faster spreading variant has been found in Ontario. The couple who have it had not traveled, nor had contact with other high risk individuals--so I encourage everyone to get vaccinated asap.

Pianotuna I have the starting blocks for my wheelchair nailed just outside the front door.

I've got 6 months to go until I'm 75, so I'll fib.

EDIT EDIT EDIT

Great Britain announced that their medicine approval board was looking at 3 January as a possible release date for the AstraZeneca COVID vaccine.

The problem with the newly discovered variant is not that the existing vaccines won’t work on it, the issue is that it is vastly more contagious than the original strain, and we are still many months away from getting a meaningful percentage of the population vaccinated.

People letting their guard down now could be tragic.

JaxDad,

Well said. However, at least they don't have to start from scratch.

The sneaky way the virus enters a household is through a child or relative. Here is an example of how I visited friends for Christmas dinner and attempted to stay stay safer.

Everyone wore masks
Only my friends same age ate at one table 6' apart
There were three of us
The others ate upstairs out on the patio
Freshly washed dishes and silverware
The food was brought already dished out
Afterward only Celso and I were left downstairs
We sat 10' apart on a sofa.
I waved goodbye at everyone 20' away

It may be alien but it's reasonably safe. I spend day after day solo in my own house. When housekeepers clean I am in a different room.
Tons of detergent and Clorox.

We are due to learn more about vaccination sceduling down here next week. First are medical just like up north. The jabbing will go faster. But information demanding we allow our bodies enough time to develop antibodies sobers me up. It seems like March at the earliest I can relax.

Precisely. Well said.

The only constant with any (all) viral pathogens is: genetic drift. Every virus will mutate, and sars-cov-2 is no exception. Polyvalent vaccines will be the norm, maybe as soon as January as other sars-cov-2 sub-types emerge. We will ALWAYS be playing catch-up with this one.....just like the flu virus, we'll be receiving new anti-covid vaccines probably forever.
