Notice of Retraction: Effectiveness of Surgical and Cotton Masks in Blocking SARS-CoV-2
Annals of Internal Medicine, 2020

Quote:

According to recommendations by the editors of Annals of Internal Medicine, we are retracting our article, “Effectiveness of Surgical and Cotton Masks in Blocking SARS-CoV-2. A Controlled Comparison in 4 Patients,” which was published at Annals.org on 6 April 2020 (1).

We had not fully recognized the concept of limit of detection (LOD) of the in-house reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction used in the study (2.63 log copies/mL), and we regret our failure to express the values below LOD as “

There is an MD in Australia that says the earth is flat; do you choose to believe him?

Still waiting on published data (as opposed to opinion) showing the lack of effectiveness of surgical masks at preventing the spread of covid.

Here is the science:

"Our study indicates that wearing a face mask can be effectively combined with social distancing to flatten the epidemic curve. Wearing a mask presents a rational way to implement as an NPI to combat COVID-19"

Please wear a mask.

Unfortunately the discussion regarding masks resulted in some flaming by a member. The most recent reliable scientific studies validate that washing hands, masking, and distancing are currently the most effective means of slowing down the spread of Covid; at least until we get a vaccine.

So, if new reliable scientific data comes out to backup or refute means of slowing the spread and/or finding an effective vaccine, lets post it. This does NOT include going back to studies previously reported.

Those who are skeptical over the number of false positives should do a little research on some of the newer diagnostics technology, in particular I am referring to Co-Diagnostics Inc of Salt Lake City UT and their system.

Numerous tests by unrelated third parties have proven their tests to be correct 100% of the time to date.

Just heard that United Airlines will be giving "rapid tests" to it's customers as they board United's planes; it is understood that these tests have a 15 minute turn around time for results. I wonder how reliable they are. In addition, United has nice cross continental trips from Atlanta to Hawaii (non-stop), and Hawaii has agreed to use those tests as evidence that a passenger is Covid-free when the passenger lands in Honolulu, thus, the passenger will not be required to go through 14-day quarantine.

Presuming that is the Abbott test, it is widely know to less than perfect.

From a recent article, “ Abbott, the health technology company that produces the test, reports that when patients had symptoms the test was in agreement with PCR testing for 97.1% for COVID-19 positive cases and 98.5% for COVID-19 negative cases.”

Using the worst case of 97% for positive, and 200+ seat plane is only half full, you could very well be sitting on a plane with 3 very sick people for 9+ hours and upon landing those 3 people, and anyone else they infected are going to be allowed to go where when they want without any quarantine.

Pass thanks..

The clicky to the article.

I have read more conflicting evidence about SARScovid19-2 evidence than I should have. I have had to pare down the conflict to a threesome of absolutes

Concentrations of people invite spikes. This means the concentration of the virus in the air directly correlates to the spread. When I wear a mask I can feel the saturation of humid breath on the cloth that would otherwise exit into the air. Talking increases this effect.

Washing hands is essential. Everyone agrees it kills virus. My personal choice is a medicated soap in the belief it will maintain a level less contaminated between handwashing
