Hi,
I am looking to get a one ton diesel SRW truck to tow a fairly heavy fifth wheel. I need one that will have sufficient payload to safely tow a trailer with a 2500 pound pin weight plus cargo, etc. and I really don't want to get a dually if I can avoid it.
I am looking for a long bed with a trim package equivalent to the Lariat, Laramie, etc.
Which of the Big Three has the highest payload rating? I would think that they would be fairly close but...
From what I have found so far in researching just Ford and Dodge it seems that an equivalently equipped long bed diesel in the high end trim package that the Ford has about 3200 pounds of payload but the Dodge has about 4200. Can this be right? That seems like a huge discrepency. Am I missing something here?
How does the Chevy compare?
thanks
Matt

Remember that Ford has renamed it's 1 ton dually as the F-450. That may be the source of the difference.

So ford doesn’t make an F350 dually? I thought the 450 was different.

“Which of the Big Three has the highest payload rating?”
And you couldn’t determine this online because...? Not a great deal of thinking going on on your part IMO.

“equivalently.” Equally equipped? You are missing...something.

Strange, I built a SRW F350 on Fords website a couple of days ago.

Just how heavy are you looking? A 5er with a loaded 2,500# pin is about a 12,500# 5er loaded any SRW max GVWR TV should be able to carry that easily.
Not all 350/3500 SRW are created equal,’some have low GVWR which in turn lower payload. You can buy a F350 with a 10,000# GVWR no better than a F250!

Ford and Ram both have 350 3500 one ton SRW trucks with over 4000 lb payloads. Same with a 3500 SRW GM truck.
These are the holy grail for Ram and Ford weight specs. Choose the GVWR/GAWR package with the most in the bed payloads. Click on the year model your interested in. These specs can show which configuration has the bigger payloads.

RAM will have the higher stickered payload. Ford can have the higher axle weight rating if equipped right. My 2016 RAM CCLB SRW Cummins/Aisin has a payload just over 4000lbs. A Laramie would be slightly less payload unless you get the 68RFE transmission as they are lighter than the Aisin. I tow a 2018 Open Range 374bhs which has a dry pin weight of about 2500lbs.

No easy answer to Ford. Don't know about the others. But if you check the Ford specifications you will see that the maximum payload rating for an F350 SRW ranges from a low of under 3,000 to a high of 4,800 depending on configuration (cab, bed, engine, options, etc).
