@Reisender -- I thought Tesla's Roadster is in the luxury category. No, I have not seen one on the road nor in mock up rendering.
Interesting factoid: Teslla's first Roadster, most likely collector's item by now, is (was?) owned by Elon's friend whom he borrowed $50,000 to meet payroll and who wrote it off not believing that Musk's vision is viable and that he can pull off an electric vehicle of some practical everyday consumer use.
Could be. I know very little about the new roadster. Real purdy though.

Model S and X are actually reasonably luxurious but don't really compete with cars in the high end Luxury class like some of the Mercedes, Aston Martin, Rolly Royce, Jaguar etc. Teslas are considered high performance premium sports sedans and compete in that market along with BMW, Volvo etc. Teslas are super spartan inside. Very few buttons. Everything is voice control etc. Sit in a luxury car someday and then sit in a Tesla and you'll feel the difference immediately. Super stark in a Tesla and it’s part of their appeal to their customer base. The tech is also very good. Premium sound systems. Security systems and video surveillance are excellent. When a crime is committed police know to look around fora Tesla as they see and record everything if the system is triggered.
Price point is also not in the high end luxury market. They are relatively cheap compared to the competition. Although model S and X are pricier model 3 which is the most common Tesla sold starts around 37000 bucks plus tax etc.
They are however super fast. My wifes car is about zero to 60 in 4 seconds or less And it’s in the slower Tesla category. In this regard they tend to be faster than their BMW or Volvo etc competition. This is my wifes model 3 inside and outside. Plain. Understated and simple. They are very nice and worthy of the premium classification but I wouldn't use the word "refined or luxury". Sit in a Jaguar i-pace and you'll notice a difference. Materials etc. There is no leather in a new model Tesla. Not even available. Its called Vegan leather. Stands up good though.

Reisender wrote: Lucid Air just took the crown for the fastest (pre) production luxury sedan in the world. They just ran a quarter mile beside a Tesla P100D and beat them. (The Tesla was not a plaid model from what I read). The lucid did it in 9.9 seconds and trapped at 144 mph. If the Lucid goes into production it will be the king. Lucid isn’t clear on pricing yet for this model but it’s expected to be around 140,000 to 180,000. Other models expected to start around 80,000 so competitive with some Tesla models. So roughly 30 percent more than Tesla for the fast one. But it also has an expected EPA range of 500 miles which is 100 miles more than the Tesla. No zero to sixty times mentioned but speculation that is under 2 seconds is already out there. Woohoo. Literally almost twice as fast as our model 3.
Home charge rates at 19.2 KW which is what Tesla model S you to have with the dual charger option until 2017.
I love that the competition is heating up.
Now go get em Elon. Show us what the Plaid P100D can do.

On edit. Fixed the price estimates. Was working off the CAN exchange rate.
Very nice,
Now comes the hard part,,
Build a factory and start production.

NO FREAKIN WAY. Ah mannn. I would love to see some pics. I love my wifes model 3, great car, but gotta say my personal favorite EV on the market today is the Jag. AND IT'S A HATCHBACK. Depending how the second retirement thing goes at some point we may get either a cyvertruck or another hatchback. I might be confusing you with another poster but seem to recall you had a leaf at one time. I would be interested to hear your comparison from a utility perspective of the Ipace hatch/cargo area etc in comparison to the leaf...which I felt was fairly useful even with the high rear seat bump when folded down.
We bought the model three because we needed a long range BC to California (and other not so far) road trip machine which it does very well with the supercharger network. But that is not a requirement for vehicle number two if we go that way again. And the I-pace is soooo sweeet.
And I even like the colour. (My favourite I pace pic)

Yah. No mention of that in the video. One of the subsequent videos has a shot of the SUV though. ITS BIG. So I would say as least as much as the model X or more.
Personally I don't think Tesla wants to get into the luxury sedan market but if they are on the fence, this would be the catalyst. Tesla buyers seem to like more spartan interiours and I'm not sure they would go for a luxury interiour. My personal opinion is they will leave that to the Jaguar Ipace, Mercedes and Lucid. I really like the minimalist interiour of our model 3, but I had the chance to sit in a Jag I-pace and I absolutely loved it. If you ever have the chance check it out.
Whats that saying, "There's an a$$ for every seat.
