I would love to be able to do a double roof, or at least a roof with an airspace above the insulation.

For that matter, even rebuilding the sides with an airspace on the outside, I think would help greatly.

Haven't had enough time to effectively figure out how to do that without adding too much weight to the rig.

If this thing had a GVW of 26000 lbs, it would not be a problem at all. That would be a piece of cake, and no cdl or special license required, because it would be under 26001 lbs.

If you want to do something, you will find a way.
If you don't, you will find an excuse.

I'm going to hook this up with two alternators (custom voltage regulator) to drive the 12V bus/charge the batteries, and build some circuitry (including an Arduino or two) to start/stop the engine.

That's the plan anyway..

Could you get by with one alternator - say a 250 amp 12v, or maybe a bus alternator, which usually are 24 volt, instead of a dual alternator setup?

250 amps (at roughly 12v) only gives you 3kw, and that's at peak performance. Two will allow me to draw more current while not stressing the alts fully. I guess I don't really need that much, but I'd like to be able to leverage the 13hp engine.

How about a 370 amp single alternator, or 2?

Alternator

Maybe a 525 amp at 28 volts?

525 amps

Isn't technology wonderful?

It's only money. It doesn't mean anything, unless you don't have any/enough. Or, so I am told. Lol.

Fulltimin, I just read through this entire thing and you scare the heck out of me! Why? Because I have a 91'Southwind I'm restoring with a "soft wall" by the passenger seat, by the dinette and in the bathroom and several delams on the outside! YIKES! I've just finished the mechanicals and contemplating the inside, and I convinced my wife it was a piece of cake after her begging me to set it on fire! I'm inspired and daunted by your work. Keep it up so I won't loose faith! LOL!

Have you started your rebuild yet?

You guys know what would be fun? Cart those projects of yours down to San Felipe Mexico on the eastern coast of Baja so I can watch you all work. Great fun. I might even pitch in. I have some electrical/electronic expirience (60 years) along with all the home building arts.

Pickup up my new steel today. Ye Haw!!!

Got 8 pieces of 1" x 1.5" x .083" and 24' long. I cut 8' off of all of them, so it made it easier to haul.

I plan on using some of this for the roof, so 8' will be about right for some of them.
