This area was there from the factory. They welded in two - 1 x 1.5 inch pieces of steel onto the steel that holds the door frame. The reason for that was to give some extra stability for the assist handle outside the door. That is the one that you grab onto, when entering or exiting the drivers door.
Even though this rig has a drivers door - it's not all that comfortable getting in and out of it. I don't use it much. Maybe it needs something different to make it a little easier to do so.
If you want to do something, you will find a way.
If you don't, you will find an excuse.

Wondering why you haven't removed the captain's chair to give more room to work, and to keep it safe from work accidents? Planning on replacing it anyway?

I like living on the edge....Lol...
Seriously though, it was not in that position when I was doing the welding, (I turned it 180 degrees), and I did cover it. It does need recovering though. My wife doesn't want 34 year old fabric on the seats, and I agree with her. It definitely need updating.
They are not in bad shape, but it's time for a change.

Here is another area of interest I found. This is right behind the driver and co pilot seats. This area was covered with carpet.

After removing the carpet, we are left with plywood, and a hole in the middle for the light, that was originally wired in to be able to turn on in the dark, so you could see where you were walking.

I removed the screws at the top from the inside, and found that it is also screwed into the floor joist, at the bottom, from the outside, which I decided for the time being, to leave alone.
I did however, pry the top open a little and stuck the end of my hammer in there to hold it open.

When I peered down in there, what I found is, as you can see - daylight on the left side.
This is nothing more than 1/2 inch plywood, with a covering on the outside of the plywood, of a thin piece of aluminum.
The aluminum is good for keeping the plywood from being exposed to the elements, which is a good thing, and the plywood is actually in good shape.
However, there is no insulation behind, nor in front of the plywood. The engine compartment is directly in front of this piece, so heat from driving would filter through, and in cold weather, cold would come through.
I am going to have to change that. Insulation will be necessary, whether it is on the inside or outside, but I will have to add some there somehow.

When you use the por15 use gloves and cover your arms it is real hard to get off of skin. Dynamat is a good light weight insulation and also has a sound deadener in it. Great job

I am not familiar with Dynamat. I'll have to look into it.
Thanks.
