After buying a used 2008 gas RV with the Ford E450 v10 with less than 10k miles, we want to do some preventive maintenance.

What fluids should we change?
Brake
Oil and filter
Coolant
Transmission
Power steering

Other engine items?
Serpentine belt
Air filter
Fuel filters

Generator oil and fuel filters?

Anything else?
Inspect hoses

Thanks!

I bought a 2007 with 18,000 miles so figured since I got it from the original owner I had some idea on what was or was not done. I dumped the trans fluid and replaced the filter, changed motor oil and filter, changed oil in the generator. It has a special engine air fliter so I washed it and oiled it. Added new front and rear upgraded sway bars. Added Scan-Gage to monitor the various systems. In a few weeks will change out the rear axle fluid and flush the brake fluid. I also had to tighten down the roof a/c unit as it got a bit loose and allowed some rain water to dribble in, might want to check that mounting for tightness. Added new tire valve stems to allow the tire monitor system senders to fit easily on the rear duals. Your going to have a blast with your new to you rig.

with less than 10k, I wouldn't touch changing anything, other than the engine oil and filter(UNLESS I HAD REASON TO). Maybe the air filter if it needs it. Get you mechanic to check the others, and unless they are low or contaminated, they should be good for at least 50k or more. In newer engines, unless there is a good reason, most fluids are good for over 100K. Other lubricants just don't go bad from time only. things to look out for are overheating, water getting into the engine and transmission, and brake overheating or leakage.

At 8 years old, i'd replace all the fluids, grease all the joints to pack in new grease. Evaluate all the hoses and just replace since thats cheap when doing those items.

Oils, grease, brake fluid, power steering fluid, coolant, rubber, all degrade with time as well as use. Cheap insurance to a failure of any major component.

This also gives you a base line for your own maintenance plan since youll know the condition of the fluids. You may find an issue that needs immediate fixing too.

All very good advice so far but one thing to do on a rig that old is to replace all your rubber brake lines, they have a tendency to degrade over time. They will look fine from the outside but may collapse on the inside leading to no braking.

A common over looked repair when having a braking problems.

At the same time drain and replace the brake fluid.

Change all fluids. Run your gasser for about 3-4 months. Take oil and transmission oil sample and maybe pumpkin sample and send to Blackstone labs for analysis. Then every year send them another sample for comparison. The info they give back is great and less than $30.00 per sample
