PawPaw_n_Gram wrote: ![]() Sunday, Sunday, Sunday ...... Daytona 500 Qualifying and the Advance Auto Parts Clash Be s bit strange to see the Clash as a daytime race. 9 days til theDaytona 500 Thanks. I didn't realize it was coming up so fast. Time flies these days it seems. Had to check to see if my driver (Kyle Larson) for this year had any sponsorship. Looks like Credit One is the primary. Wife has yet to select her driver for this year. I'm guessing she may go with Martin Truex (performance plus feel-good story). Or she will select a Green car from one of the upcoming Daytona races as that is her color. Danica will be there in green but only for the 500. I sure hope we have better luck with our driver/team selection this season than we did with our NFL picks. Every single team that we picked lost - from the wildcard games to the super bowl. |

I'm thinking Toyota will be the next Cup sponsor. Any other thoughts?

Nah, NA$CAR already extracting maximum dollars from Toyota. And Brian France says he's confident Monster will extend their sponsorship. What could go wrong?

Only 40 cars entered in the Daytona 500, and one car - the BK Racing #23 - doesn't have a driver yet. For the first time in my memory, there will be no one knocked out of making the race in qualifying or the Duels. For the first time in my memory, there will be no one knocked out of making the race in qualifying or the Duels. Just read the ESPN story. According to their research, everyone that entered making the race hasn't happened since 1969.....and that was a much bigger field. Except for teams from Hendrick, Gibbs, Penske, & SHR that didn't make the front row in qualifying, you have to wonder if the rest of 'em won't 'mail it in' in the Duels to make sure they're in the show on the 18th. |

The Duels for 'guaranteed in' cars in recent years have become practice sessions for drafting, picking drafting partners, checking fuel mileage, testing tire wear. But I do expect less urgency to get to the front for the smaller teams. More concern to make sure they come out of the Duels without damage to the car or engine. |

My thought exactly. If entry list remains at 40, the have nots especially, won't risk blowing it up or crashing out. Simply can't afford it.Exhibit A will be the #7 Go Daddy car.

With the continual arguments in the BK Racing bankruptcy, I doubt the #23 will actually participate unless some driver walks in the door with enough cash/ sponsorship to pay for the race. Heck the bankruptcy court and creditors might keep the team from racing even then. Actually I think it would take a completely prepared team leasing the BK charter for the weekend. And the way it looks, why would anyone bother to lease the charter. |

Is BK Racing situation a bankruptcy proceeding or just the lender suing for recovery on a loan default? I read the bank is seeking control of the team because the charter is the only thing of value.

A few new rules are in place for this season. During pit stops only 5 over the wall now instead of six. The drivers believe that it will add about 2 seconds to a 4 tire stop. The time to fix wreck related damage goes to 6 minutes instead of 5. The crash clock men over the wall violation from last year is now a 2 lap penalty rather than being parked and out of the race. There are more but they were announced previously. Let's go racing boys! |
