Topic: Nascar Follies

Larson's latest rub with the rules reminds me of Michael Waltrip's final truck race at Daytona. The deck spoiler suddenly 'collapsed' on the final laps which seemed to allow him to pull away from the field and win. NASCAR ruled 'crash damage' was the cause and nothing tricked out about the truck. I watched the entire race on TV, to this day I'm still wondering what crash damage. The back end of the truck was as pristine as when it rolled off at the start of the race.

Sorry for the cynicism, but does NASCAR owe Toyota another championship, seeing as how Truex Jr. inherited the pole for tomorrow?

Another boring xfinity race with the Cup boys racing.

I don't watch the Xfinity racing anymore because of that issue. Maybe some day NASCAR will stop the big boys from racing down. Kind'a like Manning going back and qtrbacking for his old college team just on game day.
Well gotta' go and fix my pico for the Loudon race.

Kyle Larson........he should be nicknamed 'Dracula'. No matter how many stakes NASCAR drives in his heart, he keeps coming back! Starts from the back and came oh so close to taking Hamlin. You go, kid!!!

Edit: Not long ago, seem to remember NASCAR warned teams to limit or stop the exuberant, 'burn it down' victory celebrations that alter the car before post race tech inspection. My questions: I know the driver can adjust brake bias, front and rear. Can it be done on the individual wheel positions? Curious that Hamlin's victory burnout didn't blow both rear tires, just the left, and considerably tore up the left rear quarter panel in the process. Hiding something there, Denny?????

Sooner or later JGR was going to win a race. Maybe they hacked Chad's brain and figured something out. [emoticon]
Probably running slightly lower pressures on the left side to add grip in the corners, but one had to go first either way.

Fair enough, but I recall several teams busted in the course of races this year for pulling out the skirt behind the jack pin and and behind the fender well, and when I noticed it, it's always on the driver side. Must be some kind of aero advantage to be gained' teams know it and so does NASCAR. The 48 and 22 (and possibly the 78 & 18) are two teams that come to mind.

Recall that Chad's car was broken into at Sonoma, and they took his things, including his notebook/computer.
So, you think NASCAR conspires to hurt and help certain drivers.....?
I remember being accused of the same thing, back in my days of racetrack ownership. It's the nature of the fans, and the racers. I first noticed it back in the early 60's, when I won some go-kart IKF Enduro Championships (run on big-car road courses).

Didn't always think so, but in the last decade, yes, at least with manufacturers. I certainly don't know the figures, but I believe there's little question that outside of the big TV contracts, Toyota is one of NASCAR's biggest revenue streams ( for track promoters as well). They want more from that expenditure than one championship in 10 years of playing. Gibbs was a two car operation before Toyota. Who could forget Michael Waltrip's foray into ownership, which absolutely wouldn't have happened without Toyota. Gibbs is the only major team Toyota has, so yeah, I guess I'm hearing helicopters! According to jayski.

Quote:

With 3.2M viewers, Sunday’s Monster Energy @NASCAR Cup Series race on @NBCSN was the most watched sports event of the weekend.

The viewership number is a 1.95 rating.(Showbuzz Daily)

Last year's race drew 3.3 million viewers for a 2.1 rating.

That's not as far off (year-to-year) as some of them have been this year is it?

Do the tracks not report attendance numbers anymore?

NASCAR (and track operators) stopped disclosing live gate figures after the 2012 season.

Sports Media Watch website (sportsmediawatch.com) releases ratings for all major televised sporting events. NASCAR event overnight or final ratings typically appear on their site every Wednesday or Thursday if the race was postponed. They also provide year over year ratings comparisons.
