Topic: Nascar Follies

When Sonoma is reduced to a single 'not end of stage' caution, you know NASCAR is in trouble when they reduce road courses to sleep inducing parades. Used to really look forward to Sonoma & Watkins Glen but now...........

Best racing I’ve seen this season is trucks and Xfinity WITHOUT the Cup drivers.

I'm getting a big kick out of the NBC promos for Jr. saying "I can be myself". Well there in lies the problem. Why didn't he tell FRANCECAR where the bear poo-pooed in the woods while driving? We will see how long it lasts until someone from FRANCECAR tells NBC (Nobody Cares Network) to tell him to scale it back. His Dad was a professional at going to the FRANCECAR hauler and telling them where the bear poo-pooed and walked out the door. The drivers have prostituted themselves to Corporate America and run scared!

You don't poke the bear when you are making $15,000,000.00 a year.
It will be interesting to see what their ratings do with JR in the booth. As hot as it is in this part of the country I for sure will be inside watching.

The Jr. in the booth novelty will wear off. Doesn't matter who is in the booth if the show out on the track is flat
Everyone of the Hall of Fame inductees in the booth will not help if the races continue to be a long train of follow the leader "round and round they go" races.....well, you get the point.

Well the show on the track definitely got a little better at Chicagoland. One of the better finishes I have seen this year, maybe there is still hope that Nascar can survive more than a decade of things like the car of tommorow and other assorted mediocrity.

If the "show" at Chicagoland Speedway is considered "a little better" I have to wonder what would be considered a lot better? As a former owner of a racetrack, and a former race promoter, my opinion is that it was an example of the very best that is possible for NASCAR to produce! This should make it obvious that the main problem is that if the layout and configuration of the racetrack is not right, NASCAR racing "shows" will be boring,....period. And, it means that since NASCAR is NOT going to discard all those tracks that are WRONG,.....NASCAR is doomed. For me, the only question is will I die before NASCAR?

I’m just glad KB made the last move on on KL. KL said it was a lot of fun. KB would have been whining all week. [emoticon]

That last lap conjured memories of Kurt Busch/Ricky Craven at Darlington, Jimmie Johnson/Carl Edwards at Atlanta. Kyle Larson left it all on the track running down that other Kyle. No apology from either driver necessary, they weren't trying to wreck each other.

Oh, judging by NBC's camera work keeping camera views off the stands except for the occasional glimpse, looks like NASCAR's moving the Chicago race to July didn't resonate with fans. From the grandstands, to the infield and backstretch campsites, attendance looked woefully thin.
