As they have been running it into the ground for years new ownership will be welcome.
It will sell at some price, probably to a group consisting of team owners desperate to save their cash cow. Hopefully they will get back to grass roots racing without $100,000 air guns.

Was either the Reuters story or a column I read in Forbes, but apparently NASCAR was toying with the idea of creating their own media network to distribute the race broadcasts rather than licensing broadcast rights to commercial networks. Apparently this was considered around the time the last TV deal was inked.

Given that ESPN and Turner dropped out, CBS hasn't had interest in years, leaving only Fox and NBC, you wonder if lack of interest from commercial networks put a stake in the heart of the idea. Sure, NASCAR scored a big payday with the current contract, but the declining ratings are no doubt a big reason NASCAR race coverage has turned into 3-5 hours of commercials with occasional race interruptions. The networks have to recover all that coin somehow, and it appears over the last decade or so, even selling commercials is tough sledding for the networks.

At this moment, it appears Kevin Harvick ' owns' NASCAR with his 5th win. Career season?

Certainly does appear that Harvick is long gone....maybe at the end, Kyle B can have some say in the matter..

This is the second season SHR is doing the chassis work in house. Is that the magic, or is it the 'golden horseshoe' effect Harvick once referred to Kyle Busch benefitting from that's the difference? Either way, SHR as an organization is showing strength.

This is an interview with Greg Zipadelli talking about their success.
"When asked to pinpoint where SHR’s dominance had come from, Zipadelli said: “Obviously from an aero perspective, we’ve got a very strong group."

“They work hard. They’re very dedicated to building great race cars. It’s the same thing everybody works on, you work on aero, you work on horsepower, and you work on pit crews.”

And I think Ford is changing to the Mustang body next year.

SHR definitely is hot right now. Next year the Mustang might change that, but I assume they are already working on that.
Maybe MOPAR could get back in Cup with the Challenger?
Maybe Kyle Busch could drive a 1974 Celica. LOL

We met the coolest Great Grandmother yesterday. She's been driving short tracks in the Benson AZ area and doing pretty well at it. She's 75 years old now, and won 10 races one season.
She and her husband own a donkey forever home north of Benson that we visited yesterday. Good people and gentle animals.
Anyway, back to racing. Her name is Tish Hiestand and she thinks that she has to be the oldest female still running. Does anybody know of another lady racer over 75? She'd like to talk to them if so.

From the above story.

Quote:

If you are going to race at a track, you’d better be there unless you are sick or dead,” Hiestand said. Adding that if someone is providing a place to race, drivers better be there supporting their efforts.

Currently seventh in the Hornet points out of 30 drivers, she stresses that consistency is key to a good points finish.
Hiestand is content racing the kids in the Hornet class.

“They have no respect for their elders,” she said with a chuckle. “They are good kids, but they seem to enjoy whipping me."

What a great story, I love her attitude. And 7th in points out of 30 drivers? That is outstanding. I wonder if she gets a senior discount on her race entry fees? [emoticon]

As far as having the Challenger in nascar, I'd love to see that happen. The Challenger is the only one of the 3 modern "muscle cars" that I can actually fit in and drive comfortably. Plus I think it looks the best of the three.
