I'm thinking of having a receiver hitch welded to the 8 I-beams of our 5er. I'm thinking of two pieces of heavy duty square tubing welded at 90 degrees to the I-beams, spaced about 3 or 4 feet apart and welded to each beam. Then the receiver part of the hitch welded to both of the pieces of square tubing.

I'm hoping to haul a 388 lb. motorcycle on this hitch. Tell me what you think; pros and cons, or better ideas. Thanks.

If you get too much weight on the rear, the trailer will be unstable.
They had a demo on television short time ago. It got to whipping.

The rear of a trailer bounces a lot. Any thing cantilevered off the rear is going to bounce even more. And that is a lot of weight to bounce.

Consider a front hitch for your truck.

450 lbs of cycle and rack is not going to affect the stability of your CF325 fiver. A rack/carrier for cycle with a single center receiver is very sloppy/loose and will bounce too much. I would weld 2' long 2" hitch receivers to each frame rail pointing back. I would make a 8' rack with a turned up end to hold the front tire. The turned up end pivots on a 4' long 2" receiver tube that goes in the new left hitch. The right side is removeable so you can lower that end of the rack to the ground to load the cycle and strap the front tire to it. It may take two people to raise it up and install the second 4' receiver tube. The 4' length is so you have extra sticking out for straps to the handlebars and the rear of the cycle.

I have channel that is bolted to the frame and extends through the fiberglass of the rear of the 5er and then got a stock pu hitch and extended its square tube welded to the channel iron. I would not hesitate to put a dirt bike on the back, did it on an older pull trailer with no issues. I presently have a rack for my 3000 watt yamaha generator and some other small items. Your choice. I carried that set up 4000 miles last year.

I have seen too many items shaking themselves to pieces on the back of long 5'ers and have dodged these pieces when traveling behind one.

I would never put anything on the back of mine. If it falls off and kills someone it wouldn't be a good day. Way too much danger for me.

The added weight to the rear will remove a proportionate amount from the pin/tongue and place it on the axles. 450 pounds of cycle and rack, will actualy be a 900 pound addition to the trailer suspension. Do you have that much room on your suspension??
