Topic: So what did you do to your Truck Camper today?

Ripped out part of the driver's side wing where the 2x4 had rotted into something akin to florists foam in terms of strength.

Upside, less rot than there was in the passenger side wing that had to be completely replaced.

Received a new Sealand Toilet seal. I guess I should be happy that the last seal made it 10 years and just recently stopped holding water in the bowl.

Reinstalled the rear HJ motors that came back from being rebuilt after motor seizures. I don't remember if it was there when they went out but these came back with a stiff rubber o-ring where the motor slides over the jack leg.

The top of the jack fits into a recess in the motor head but this o-ring completely fills that recess and even with my 6'2" 250lbs bearing down on the motor, I could not compress the o-ring enough for the screw holes to align. The hole on the rear was even worse.

So, no o-rings. I may be wrong but the overlap without the o-ring seems like it would do a better job of stopping water intrusion than an o-ring that spaces the motor housing off the jack tube such that there is a gap instead of an overlap, that's assuming I could get the screws started...

Maybe you could could spread some grease or Vaseline or something to fill the gap that might deter what little water might get in.
Good luck.

Yeah, been thinking about it. I'm really not sure water intrusion into the jack is a problem. Based on the fit I really doubt this gasket was there before. The jack tube is recessed about 1/8" into the motor housing (about the diameter of the o-ring) and it's a snug fit so it would take water under pressure to travel the U channel to get inside the jack tube, and any water in there simply drains out the bottom. I thought about maybe running a strip of electrical tape around the top of the jack tube to act as a gasket but a little grease of some sort should also do the job.

I had the same issue when my motor came back from being repaired. I just ended up using a few rubber bands to fill the gap enough to where I had to push down to get the screw started. Hopefully it's sealed.

We added a second shower curtain rod and curtain in the bathroom over the vanity, so anything sitting on the vanity and the vanity and medicine cabinet will not get soaked when showering. Two more sleeps!

Cut a 2x6 to bolt into place for the new furnace vents to anchor to from the outside, finish cleaning, butyl taping and reinstalling the last of the trim strips to the driver's side, installed the new fresh water tank fill port, city water connection, and cut the new hole in the replaced 2x6 for the 30 amp marine connector for shore power and sealed it into place.

Also got the other rear jack bracket drilled and mostly installed (Still need to pull the shower so I can install the rest of the carriage bolts into the frame to secure the lower leg portion from the second direction.

Tomorrow, I'll clean and clear the floor so I can tear up the forward sheet of plywood and see if the floor framing needs repairs or just additional framing (will need some anyways up front to support the new 41 gallon fresh water tank.

The 35 gallon waste tank has finally shipped, found a new 20" wide tread three step folding stair case to replace the existing two step, and if there's time left tomorrow, I'll finish dry fitting the new bed frame into the cabover, and then cut the rest of the pieces so I can get it installed and be able to safely climb up and start carefully removing the last pieces of the ceiling (need to use them as a template to cut the new pieces).

Once those are out, I can begin running the new wiring for the running lights, finally figured out why they weren't working well. Apparently to save 30 cents, they grounded them all into the skin on the driver's side rather than run a ground wire all the way back.

Dropped it off at a local dealer to have a Polar Cub Mach 8 installed.
