That's a cool idea. Where'd you get the laser?

Get the heat sink and battery pack too.

How did you mount it? Got photos? Do you have an ON/OFF switch or just use the alligator clips.

I use a similar method but not as hi tech as your approach. I have small pieces of black electrical tape on the camper in the same locations you describe, one centered in the bottom of the rear truck window, and an orange strip down the center of the bed mat. Works OK.

I use the laser idea when loading my camper, picked up the laser at harbor freight, I think it was about $4.00 works great, has a strong magnet on the mounting surface, just put it on the front rail of the bed, marked it so I use the same spot every time.

Does the green show up better outside than the red?

my laser is red and shows up fine, I placed reflective tape with a black mark on the exact center. works fine.
The one I got from Harbbor Freight seems to work fine.

My Latest project: Install a wireless tc back up and inside the horse trailer camera system from Tadi Brothers. My friend Pat has this set up on his Lance and horse trailer and it works great. I am eventually going to hook the monitor power to my Upfitter switches vs the current set up using the 12v dash socket. I spent Saturday morning on the install. One camera is on the back of the Lance above the rear door and the other will be inside the trailer so that we can monitor the horses in transit. The Cameras have military grade night vision capability.

I got lucky on the horse trailer. There were 5 wires running in the C channel along the inner roof line, one was hot if the trailer was hooked up to the truck and the truck was running. No lights need to be on in the truck or trailer for the camera to get power so I spliced into it. The camera still needs some angling andjustment but we have success. I just need to trim up the zip ties and secure the wiring.

The Lance was not pre wired for a camera so I tapped into the rear marker light for power. install was a snap.
