Topic: Avion truck campers - Hundreds of photos

A question to all the Avion Camper owners that have done a bathroom remodel on the camper. I am thinking about encasing my wood and foam insullation, under my shower pan, with fiberglass. Did anyone else do this to strengthen the shower pan?

Since I had the shower pan out I went ahead and put a 1/4 x 20 bolt through the floor with a fender washer on top and a 3/4" x 3/4" angle iron underneath to hold the last corner of my 19 gallon grey water tank. It isn't going to come loose now.

Another question for the Avion folk who are rebuilding their campers.
Avion was known for using high quality items in their campers. The Rego regulator is an example. My orignal Rego 7519 D looks like new, but I'm not going to take a chance on a 43 year old regulator. Many regulators in the gas industry are made to be rebuilt and this one appears that it is made to, but nobody seems to have parts.
I found a Rego 7525 B23 that appears to be a high quality regulator. Has anyone used that particular model? The secondary stage appears to be similar to the 7519 D. Most of the regulators that you find at RV dealers are crimped together and can't be serviced.

Here is a link to a picture of the Rego 7525 B23.

We didn't do that, instead we opted for installing more cleats around the periphery and then attaching to that. It seems like a good idea to create a sandwich, especially one that is fiberglass and not susceptible to rot - in that notoriously wet area.

You are doing a stunning job on this remodel. Keep it up.

Thanks for the reply. As I understand, you put one more piece of wood around the perimeter of the wood that is already stuck under the pan? I was thinking about doing that, but since I'm taking all the fiberglass to the fiberglass guy to have it repaired, reinforced, and painted, I figured I would have him encase the wood frame and foam along with making the drain area and the perimeter a little thicker.

By the way, did you change your LP regulator? It sure is hard to find a real good one like the one the C-11 came with.

I posted on that on page 21, I think, of this string. Its unfortunate that we can't put together some sort of finding tool to search what has become a monster post. I got a note today that this string is now a "sticky" at Truck Camper University. Thanks guys for all of your posts and insights!

Here are the photos from page 21 below. We decided to change the compartment and replace the oem tanks. the regulator is now mounted on the wall on the left.

When I redo the bath in our 1968 C11 that is one thing I plan on doing. My shower floor is currently soft so it will need to be redone. I also don't care for the dated pinkish color so that will be changed also.
I do have a question and that's where did the factory have you store the sewer hose ? I'm familiar with travel trailers that generally stored the sewer hose in the rear bumper tube.

There was plenty of room in the fiberglass cover under the back on the camper. I filled most of that room with a 19 gallon gray water tank. I am going to make a 4" ABS pipe with threaded (FPT) fittings on each end and a plug in those fittings. That pipe will be attached to my extension bumper. I always put these extention bumpers on the back of my truck campers. Most of them would have an "X" brace and a receiver hitch tube. This one doesn't because it is a trailer and I won't be towing anything behind it.

Where the square tubing bumper makes it's offset (underneath) is where I will attach the ABS pipe. It is hard to picture with the fiberglass cover removed. I don't like storing dirty hoses in the fiberglass area. With an ABS (4") pipe with the ability to remove both ends, they are easy to clean.

67avion, you have started one of the best threads on this forum. I appreciate your info. I forgot that you had the vertical tanks. I have the little horizontal tanks and I'm going to continue to use them. I just need to get a new regulator and repipe the system. I am going to put a "Tee" and a valve off of one high pressure inlet sides of the regulator. I will have a high pressure 12' hose that will go from the front tanks (before the front tank regulator) to that inlet so that I use my large external tanks for everything except running the refrigerator when I'm on the road.
I will use one of the common RV dual regulators on the large front tanks so that I can run a camp stove and other external items off that regulator. I will probably buy one of those nice looking Rego regulators for the camper.

The first picture with your original tanks has the same regulator as my C-11 with the horizontal tanks . I believe it is original .
