I'm getting close to painting the AVION labels on the front and back. I think the color was red or an orange-red color. What color and paint type have you folks used for hand painting these labels?

What color and paint type have you folks used for hand painting these labels? It appears that my labels have not been redone since they left the factory or if they had it's been a very long time. It looks like a cross between orange and red but it could be due to sun fade also. When I go to do mine I think I will try automotive touch up paint that comes in the small bottles with the brush that is part of the cap. Should be small enough to stay within the recesses of the labels. Might consider a coat or two of clear coat also. |

The labels were a true orange , definitely not red . Very close to Kubota orange if that helps .

Thanks for the input. If we can find the exact color now, it will help a lot of folks in the future. Does anyone have an original color brochure that shows the badges real well. Maybe we can take one down to an automotive paint place and get the exact color off of that. The Kubota color may be the closest color that we can find. Orange isn't that popular of a color. I'm looking for a brochure, or if someone can scan one I can see if I can find the exact color. I wasn't sure if my badges were orange or red since faded red looks a lot like orange after a few decades. The AZ sun really does a number on paint. |

![]() I'm not sure if I trust my memory on this but I think that the guys at Cayo said to use Chevy engine paint. Its an orange that comes very close to the original. I used a spray can of the paint, first spraying into a cup and applying the paint with a fairly small brush to the letters. I then used nail polish remover to tidy up the marks left on the polished surface. You make your own judgements. The OEM badge seems more orange, but its been in the sun and rain for over 4 decades and may have faded. ![]() |

Nice Job. I never realized that there were so many shades of Chevy Engine Orange colors. They have many, and some that are Chevy Engine Orange/Red. I really like Duplicolor DE 1620. It appears to be very close to the badges that are on the cover of Popular Mechanics July 1969 issue. |

I've been making a little progress on the camper. Most of the interior is done, except the bathroom. I removed the shower pan and I am going to have the fiberglass strengthened. Mine had a wood frame under it which was filled with insulation foam. I think I will have that area encased in fiberglass and the majority of the pan strenghted with at least one more layer of fiberglass. I removed the fiberglass shower wall panel and replaced it with FRP. I'm going to put more FRP behind the sink on the front wall of the bathroom. I was going to finish the electrical in the camper, but the aluminum wire slowed me down. I wanted to find the best way to convert the aluminum wires to copper pigtails. The best way is COPALUM Crimps, but I don't have the crimper. There is a new connector that is supposed to be real good. It is an ALCOP connector and uses lugs that are torqued with a torque screwdriver. I ordered a few of them so that I can convert the wire nuts to these connectors. Maybe I'm over thinking this issue, but I don't like aluminum wire. I made progress on my 32 gallons of water under the truck bed. I will post pictures of it when I get a chance. It's filler is the urea tank filler hole on the new style truck bed. I will put a stainless steel seperator between the water filler and the gasoline filler. I also finished the mount for my 20 gallon gas tank under the bed. It will be 28" wide, 10-1/2" tall and 16" deep. I will use the truck bed gas filler for that tank. I will need to have it custom made, and there is a local company that can do it for around $250. That isn't bad since I can get exactly what I want with the filler and discharge where it works best for my application. 20 gallons will run a 100 watt generator a long time and also run a couple of quads for a long while. |
