Well, D, I hope I can stay the course... this is the project that's turning into a career... I'm trusting that when I get the new inner skin in, the end of the project will seem more attainable. Onward... |

We don't talk much about the difficulty of "staying the course", at least not recently. It does take tenacity, vision, time and resources. There is also a vague quality of stubbornness. Very few people can grasp those qualities and distinguish them from eccentricity or foolhardiness. That's why a forum like this is so valuable in terms of support and understanding. We have all been through it - at varying levels - and we all know the disappointments. But, we also know those who actually achieve their goals. And it is sweet. Avionistas - forward! On to Muley Point!

There is no doubt that a complete rebuild is a lot of work. Mine was plenty of work, and I didn't have any major structural issues. I admire anyone who does a complete rebuild. I was watching Chris do his and then he said he was selling it and I never heard anymore about his rig.

This is why I recommend getting it functional and use it partially finished just to get out and have fun!

Garry, I know I'm going to need some reward to keep plugging along. As soon as I get the inner skin installed, Annie and I are going to have an outing in what we've begun thinking of as our "aluminum tent", to enjoy the fruits of our labor and to imagine how we might best configure the inside. It's a process... Dick |

We added a cabinet here and there, move a wall by a few inches decided on how to move weight were it suited our needs etc. it really helps! Garry |

My circumstances were somewhat different. We had used the camper on a number of occasions when disaster struck. BECAUSE we were familiar with the unit, it gave me confidence in doing a partial restoration. I truly doubt I would have gone as far as I did without that prior knowledge. Having said that, it was a very long, very hard, slog. And there were more than a few doubts along the way. Gary and I were almost side by side during that process, if you recall. He is the longest running Avionista on this string, I think. So we shared a passion for these campers. D1, what you are doing is like composing music: it is conceptual, cerebral and prone to misgivings and doubt. I get it. But, your hard work so far, and the background you bring from yachting is a clear indicator that you will achieve the brilliant composition that you seek. I have no doubt. Now, its time to imagine the music at Muley Point. |

I too have these overwhelmed moods come over me. At times feel like throwing in the towel and admitting defeat, just freaking go out and drop the cash for the same old piece of xxxx quality everyone else has on their truck. But you know we can't do that. We're a different breed. I find keeping a sense of humor and a positive attutude, regardless of how down I feel, kind of gets me through it. Here's to you! |
