Topic: Avion truck campers - Hundreds of photos

Posted By: D1trout on 05/30/15 09:10am

What a great source of info and inspiration this forum is! It's clear we've all felt we were just pushing the rock up the hill at one time or another...
I'm seeing this thing through. The good news is that each step seems to require the mastery of a new set of skills to accomplish that step. This engenders perseverance and determination, qualities I like to cultivate in my life. Problem solving is good for the brain, we're told, as we age. I believe it. I don't like salmon (full of omega 3 nutrients for good mental function) and crossword puzzles don't do anything for me, so I consider Argo as a mental health project and my own personal anti-aging program.

Onward! To Muley Point! Let's just keep the dates kind of open...

Muley Point will always be there. But, we won't. So its better sooner than later ;-)

Howdy!
I want to pontificate too! Dick you do realize you are creatating
a one of a kind masterpiece( we all are). They do not make campers
that stay viable like this anymore. This is not unlike the car guys
with their vintage Model Ts or RollsRoyce Ghost. When you are up and
running( noticed I did not say through, are we ever?) people will stop
and stare. They will want to know about it all. We all know this,
ever gas station is a press conference. You'll have a piece of history,
your own personality and itll last! Go Dick Go!

Dennis, you dont plan on living forever?

Now there's an interesting notion, cajunavion - "every gas station is a press conference". I'll have to muse on that.
Thanks for the kind words. In any case, we are not involved with Avions because we want the run of the mill rig, in spite of the occasional frustrations that get one thinking about off the shelf, turnkey rigs...
Onwards!
Dick

So, another day and another Avionista experience. I left the camper on the quiet street in front of my house. I didn't want to back into the larger driveway at night. So this morning I carefully backed in. I got out of the truck and I found this on my windshield wiper.

I've been reading a lot about drones lately. The Feds are using them. Ambulance chasing lawyers are using them. I looked up and wondered where it could have crashed. Then I went back to the coach where I had to remove adhesive from the outside of the shell. I climbed on a ladder and I found this.

That's the stack from the bathroom. In a badly managed fit of enthusiasm I had mounted some sort of solar powered vent fan so that the fumes from the bathroom (I actually had never had fumes but this was a fit of enthusiasm)...so that the fumes from the holding tanks would always be drawn away.

So, I looked at it again and it dawned on me that my vent had gotten taken out by a tree limb when I backed up.....duh. No drones but me.

I may have mentioned that the 50 year old bed frame had collapsed under my weight. I hadn't deployed the supports correctly, and gravity took its course.

We took it apart and then fibreglassed the underside and put in supports on the top and bottom. So far no mishaps.

Cajun, this is D.

There are several Dennis's and a Dick. Hard to keep all of us straight, I know. But, we're all Avionistas who have service station press conferences.

I had to rebuild my original bed frame, and it still broke again. I had to reinforce the orignal wood (where the table top goes) with aluminum angle iron to keep it from breaking. I had also reinforce the battery compartment because I thought that was where it was weak, but that was only part of the solution.

So what was the solution? Don't I recall you posting about your repairs? The string is too long to check.

Thanks for the reminder. Actually it didn't cross my mind. Typical.

There are two Avion C-10's for sale in the upper east coast on E-bay right now... Both need major work, but not beyond repair!
