Topic: Avion truck campers - Hundreds of photos

Howdy!
D is back! Looks great, down right OEM. Citristrip is the product you need to get the
tape gum off. The airstream dudes recommended it; I used it to strip the Zolatone off the
interior and I used it to do just as you need on the exterior. Its fairly safe, and do not worry,
it won't damage the anodization.
I had to call about the other C-10. He has owned it for 14 years, wonderfull camping memories,
partial rebuild, bought in Peoria, Indiana, and gets as many looks
and questions as the rest of us. Just another Brother Avionista.
Question: Does anyone have TV mounting suggestions?

I'm not sure the new panels are anodized , mine had an electro-paint finish . You might want to test the citristrip on a scrap first .

Looking good D

I'm curious about the TV mounting also

There was a fella with an Avion at the vintage Willys Father's Day run I attended in the Black Hills last year. I didn't get to look inside or too close as I was just getting to know about their existence back then and didn't know the guy well enough to ask about it.

I may run across him in the future. I see them here and there every once in awhile. I think the club is bigger than we forum users realize.

Regarding TV mount, not sure if this is what you're asking for help on, but it's in my Amazon cart for a later purchase. My TV is small, and I'll want to move it back and forth from DW's sewing room and Lil' Queenie, perhaps even outside while on a trip in the nice summer evening air.

Removable Mount

I got the removable idea from the small TV in our TT for the bedroom, which has one.

I'm also trying to realize the best (simple/effective/inexpensive) method for streaming Netflix, etc. Looking into the Google Chromecast. A relatively inexpensive thing. I'll have to get one and experiment with it but it supposedly let's you cast a wireless signal from a laptop, tablet or smart phone to your TV. Whatever you can view on the phone for example, can be viewed on the TV with this $30 unit, as long as there's an app for it.

Also, our 24" TV is a Smart TV, meaning it can connect to a network I guess. It's a Vizio, priced well for a smart TV, and both I and my wife really like the user interface for the smart hub. Better to us than is the Sony or Roku we've tried.

For over the air, I think I'll just mount a flat bat wings antennae in the back of an overhead cabinet. Quick connections close to the TV back and mount.

Hope this helps.

It is nice to see some activity again. I can't wait to get mine out this summer since I haven't used it in a while.

67, I'm glad to see you make progress on your repair.

Cajunavion if I get down to the Gulf coast, we ought to get together for a little etouffe and a cold beverage. I really enjoy the area and have spent time in the Bayous over many years.

Ticki, I think you're right about the coating of the panels. However, my tape marks are all over the old anodized portion of the camper.

Dave Pete, thanks for your comments. I have followed your careful restoration with admiration. Perhaps you'll rescue an Avion at some point.

69avion, I'm not making it to the Overland Expo this year so I'll miss catching up with you and the gang. And yes, its been a bit of a slog with the repairs.

The good news is that I'm ahead of the game this year and may be able to get on the road more often. I got an offer from Jumbojet to camp at his place near Tontitown, Arkansas, while we travel in that region next month. He also knows everything about Torklift, a subject I'm about to go to school on in the near future.

The camper goes into my genius RV shop, Kamper Supply, in Carterville, Illinois, next Friday for some sleuthing on the electrical system. With any luck I'll have the 67 Avion up to speed in the next three weeks.

What are you guys up to? How are your rigs doing?

Onward!

I had the TC on the truck most of the winter, and used it a few times. But took it off a month ago, as I needed the truck to do truck type hauling.
I was supposed to be taking the TC on a road trip for work to Anchorage next week, but my sons Marine Corps Boot Camp graduation got moved two weeks to land on the work trip, and then the Alaska Ferry system cancelled the ferry run that I needed to go anyway, so now I know God is in control. Top that off that I received a job promotion that has required a lot of extra attention last week and this week, and I can see why I wasn't supposed to be in San Diego this last weekend, and not gone too long with both planned trips. With now just the one trip flying to San Diego, Work should be ok for the time I'll be gone....

Hopefully we can get out and do some spring camping, as we are just getting a bit of spring weather in Kodiak...

Keep the thread going, as it keeps me wanting to get out, and get off my keister and do something!
;-)

Garry, I have a leak, I think from the roof chiminey, I recall
you had one as well, where exactly was it?
I also need to replace the seal around the door, vintage trailers
didnt have it; does anyone know where to come by it?

Posted By: garryk6 on 05/02/15 11:41am

For the door, I tried several styles from the hardware stores. The hollow rubber style seemed to work better than the sponge style. For the fridge vent, mine was getting blown under the lid due to driving rains while driving on the freeway, or driving rains with winds over 40 mph. Since I don't need the vent, I filled it with foam and sealed the top with aluminum tape. That will suffice till I can find the correct aluminum and rivets to take it off and seal it off permanently.
Hope this helps!

This is what found to replace the door weather strip , it matches the original pretty close . It has held up good for 5 years now and seals well .

Hey Guys!! I know I've been MIA since August.... Sorry!!! I've been reading the last few months of posts. Looks like everyone is doing great work! Garry I'll get the canoe off the top of mine and take some pics of the rack if you're still interested. It was on it when I bought it. The kid I got it from was pretty handy and the rack on mine is made from re-used bus railing he salvaged from the City of Steamboat, CO. [emoticon] It is STURDY and a huge help hauling stuff.

Also, someone was talking about putting the water tank on the roof. Did you try it? I've been thinking of doing the same thing and then having gravity feed, but I think think I'd want a pump too. They make roof fresh water tanks for living quarters horse trailers. They also make a nifty corner one if anyone has a use for it. Here's a link. https://www.valleyvet.com/ct_detail.html?pgguid=810aa962-b05b-407f-be9d-cb55471ef93a

Other news from Wyoming.....I bought an Airstream. Well....actually Hubby bought an Airstream. It was a screaming deal (we bought it for about 1/3 of what it's worth). It's a 2005 28ft International in great shape. A monster in my opinion. But since I seem to breed Giants (Hubby is 6'4", 15 year old son is 6'5" and 13 year old is well on his way) the bigger camper has it's advantages. I'm still keeping The Goat (my pet name for the '69 Avion C11)!!!! It's MINE!! All MINE!!! [emoticon] And still making slow stead progress. I promise more pics soon.

I'm going to try to stay in better touch with you guys! I still think that since Avion was the brainchild of 2 brothers camping in Yellowstone at Fishing Bridge, we should do a TC gathering there SOON!!!
