69Cayo when you redid your wings did you use new foam or the original ? When the factory did the original did they glue the foam to the plywood ? If they didn't did you glue it ? What type of glue/adhesive did you use ? And what did you coat the plywood with to protect against future possible leaks ? I want to do this once and do it right so I value what others have already done. Thanks

My camper had been redone at least once prior to me owning it so the original material was long gone.
I did not glue the foam in but I'm sure it ended up that way just from the squeeze out of the West Systems Epoxy I used.

I think all the methods used by others are fine, the most important thing is finding the leaks and properly sealing them to prevent new damage.

If you decide to use West Systems for the glue ups, follow their instructions, let one coat soak in till tacky then apply second coat and assemble.

Dennis

ticki2 any details on the converter/charger you installed ? Model number ? Are you happy with it or would you change to something else ? I think you are correct on the 30 amp service. I am staying with a LP water heater and range/stove. Will probably go with a 12 volt fridge so the only AC draw will be the AC, microwave and a TV or radio.

The Iota is a DSL 55 with remote IQ4 controller . So far after 3 years it is working great . Be careful of going too large if you intend to use a generator . The larger they are the higher the input amps required , again it depends on your usage . You really need to look at the electrical system as a whole and do an energy audit .For me I think a 45a would have been fine . I chose the remote IQ4 so it could be mounted outside the compartment to check the light indicator at a glance . I also just like separate components so if one goes bad the whole unit doesn't need replacing .

You may want to re-read the beginning pages of this thread , many of the questions you have came up early on . It's too bad we haven't figured out how to index this thread by topic , it is now a VERY long thread , and almost all of it of significant value .

ticki2 thanks for the feedback on the Iota, I did a google search and came up with lots of good info. And yesterday I read all 131 pages of the Avion postings.......wow a lot of good info !!! I have a long ways to go on mine just to get the wings solid and the floor by the door solid but I feel that I am armed with good knowledge from this forum. It sure would be nice if it would stop raining here in Georgia !

I'm sure that you are documenting your build. Be sure and post some of the photos as you go along. They help enormously with answering questions.

Is there a caulk that is best suited for our anodized aluminum skins ? I want to drill out the rivets that hold the oven vent on the outside. It has some loose rivets and is pulled away. So I want to put a bead of caulk on the cover and on each rivet as they are inserted. Are you guys using something that is clear or silver ? I'm hoping one caulk can be used for things like this, the LP storage door, fridge door and water heater door. Maybe even the awning railings. So what do you recommend ?

I use TremPro 635 in grey , it's the replacement for Vulkem , used on Airstream for decades . Do NOT use anything with silicone .

Well folks, it's time for me to jump in.

This spring I bought a 67 C-10 off eBay. I was in Philly, it was in western Louisiana. I drove my new-old truck down there and picked it up from an active-duty soldier. He and his dad had gotten it from a guy in TN. Electrical/AC worked great, water/sewer intact but untested, no propane. PO had put in 5/8in OSB (chipboard) over floor and bunk area. Exterior structure was in great shape. Here's the rig:

Got it home to mom's farm in central NJ, parked it in the barn for the summer's repairs.

Turned out the wings were totally rotted out, disgusting. Removed gaucho, tank box, table, etc and replaced the right one. The left one under the kitchen was not so bad, save for a mouse nest dug out under the curve... but I eventually decided to do that as well. Used three layers of 1/2" ply (CDX) per Mr. Cayo's recommendation. Will post more on that job soon.

Now I'm working on rebuilding the couch area, doing plumbing and electric, before I get up the nerve to look under the bathroom for rot. Will post more updates now that I'm far enough along in the project to not feel totally discouraged when I log on here.

Nice to join in after reading most of the whole thread. I'm amazed at the time and effort some of you have been putting in, mine will not be shiny when it's done but functional and clean enough to putz around the country visiting friends and writing (I've been working as a journalist).

In the meantime, here's some inspiration from my first night out in the camper, in Tupelo MS:

Stephan,
WELCOME!!!
You have a nice start on your C-10! The tin looks in great shape! Someone ditched the round clearance lights in the front, but that isn't to bad to take care of. It's great to see another C-10 in the group! Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns, as there is alot of experience from the school of hard knocks her with these Avions. When you get a chance, read through all 130 pages, if you havn't already, as there is alot of great info and tech in there.

Again, WELCOME! and it is GREAT to see another one rescued, and back in use!
