Today I removed the passenger side wall cabinets, range hood, range/oven, kitchen sink/faucet and the countertop. At some time in the past there was a pretty good leak on the passenger side, the flake board that made up the counter top looked like it housed every ant known to man in the past. It was quite gross and it snapped in half as I removed it but it's still good to make a template from for the Corian I will install. Tomorrow I hope to remove the water heater and the metal LP bottle compartment. So far so good everything going as expected.

I found s similar leak in mine when I first brought it home , ruined the counter top , fortunately nothing else . Turned out to be the exhaust vent over the stove . Mine had two , one over the other on the outside , neither was caulked . Take a thorough look at this area , best to remove them and reinstall WITH caulking .

ticki2 there is no doubt the range vent hood deflector on the outside of the camper is part of the problem. There are two rivets that are missing and it is slightly pulled away from the skin. Will be drilling out all of the rivets and reinstall correctly with caulk. I also have to correct the refrigerator roof vent and replace all of the exterior lights I believe they have all contributed to leaks over the years.

OK here's the next question did the 1968 C11 come from the factory with a battery charger or converter ? When I bought the unit there was an old converter laying on the floor of the camper don't know if it was ever hooked up. Currently when I plug into shore power all 110 volt outlets and AC work. But none of the 12 volt items work. But when I install a battery all 12 volt items work. I want to add solar so am I looking for a combination converter/charger/solar controller ? With limited space in the current battery compartment a single unit that could do it all would be beneficial. Also is there any advantage to replace the original 30 amp service panel with something more modern ? Mine seems to work fine just asking if any benefit to replace ? Thanks

Mine came with a simple 6a battery charger which was under the lift up floor hatch under the table , next to the battery box . I have since installed an Iota converter/charger in the same location . I would not recommend putting the converter/inverter IN the battery box . By making up a custom SS battery box I could fit two # 24 batteries in the compartment .

As far as the 30a service I am still using the original . Most campers and TT only use 30a service . The larger Motor homes and 5th wheels have 50a . It depends on how many separate circuts you think need , and your usage .

Well I got into the ugly stuff today. On the passenger side of the camper there is a wrinkle in the aluminum above the single lift jack on that side. I have the base cabinets pulled out and I removed the propane box today. The wing wood shows signs of past moisture. I'm pretty sure the two main culprits are the propane box and the range vent. The propane box had a slit/rip in the lower right hand corner that easily could have let in water. And the range vent is missing some rivets and is pulled away from the skin. I removed the jack on that side now just have to remove the water heater. I removed the interior wall panel/aluminum and can see the wrinkled aluminum from the inside. The 2 x 4 that was in there was just pulp. Hopefully I can straighten the aluminum and the bottom plate and install a new 2 x 4 with lots of varnish/polyurethane on it. So what holds the 2 x 4 in place ? If I understand the construction of the wing starting at the bottom there is the aluminum skin, then 3/8 plywood, then 1 " foam then 3/8 plywood on top ? Should I stay with that layup or go all wood ? I'm replacing the OEM lift jacks with a Stable Lift so it has a continuous metal plate that will distribute the lifting force much better. I also removed the original furnace today, wow what a war horse that was ! I'll be replacing that with a vented cat heater will save some weight there. The weight savings will be offset by the Corian countertop in the kitchen. At some point in time I'll figure out how to post pics and give an update.

There should be 2 pcs. of angle iron holding the 2x in place.
The sandwich for the wing would be 3/8, 3/4 foam, 3/8 ply, giving you 1-1/2" finish thickness.
It's really a personal choice of building the layup or going with the 2 layers of 3/4.
I did the sandwich for the wings and floor on mine and if your looking to save weight this would be the route to take.

Are you interested in selling your jack crank?

69 Avion are you asking about just the handle for the jack ? The camper came with three jacks and five handles so I have two extra and I will not be using them. Let me know if interested. The end that goes onto the jack mechanism is square if that matters.

ticki2 any details on the converter/charger you installed ? Model number ? Are you happy with it or would you change to something else ? I think you are correct on the 30 amp service. I am staying with a LP water heater and range/stove. Will probably go with a 12 volt fridge so the only AC draw will be the AC, microwave and a TV or radio.

69Cayo when you redid your wings did you use new foam or the original ? When the factory did the original did they glue the foam to the plywood ? If they didn't did you glue it ? What type of glue/adhesive did you use ? And what did you coat the plywood with to protect against future possible leaks ? I want to do this once and do it right so I value what others have already done. Thanks
