Got another doozy from Petfinder:
Quote: With sound of good health. Am a family orientated woman and want to seek for your indulgence on your loving pet.Am Michelle Lawson by name.I reside in Beverly Hills CA with my husband,my 13 yrs old daughter and we live in our own owned house. I can assure you a loving and hospitality home for your pet.My family will love to give your pet a loving home and not only a lovely home, also as a member of the family which means the pet will be treated like our child Could you be kind enough to give me an appraisal of it:
Health records/present health condition?
your last asking price ahead of time?
Am not here to bargain, rather I'll make the best offer. Because i know the value of pet and my daughter can't wait to see the pet in the house.looking
forward to hear from you.Have a pleasant day
Stay Blessed

Spot spent the night on my ankles, and Alex in his usual position. Some hissing and spitting this morning, but nothing dramatic. Neither one is a fighter, thank goodness.
However, Spot's nervous again. I think he doesn't adapt quickly -- he adapts, just fairly slowly. Took him about three weeks to be comfortable enough in the garage to stop biting, grabbing and clinging. He has that look again. So we'll let him do whatever until he's comfortable again. At the moment, that means he's spending most of his time on a fuzzy blanket in our bedroom.
We don't really have a strong connection with him, even though we've had him a month. I normally bond with a cat within minutes. I think he appreciates us, but is still looking for people of his own, so we'll keep trying to find him his own home.

mr and mrs larson are trying to get into your pc. Don't open anymore of their e-mails or you will be reloading your pc. I know from experience. There are some mean sick people out there. Nice kitty i think he is going to be an asset to your family.

I just googled (Petfinder phishing scam) and find that this is a common complaint. Apparently they don't respond to the rescue ads for pets, but to the classifieds where users may be less wary. Different people have different theories as to intent, but some have been stung by being mailed fake cashier's checks or money orders for funds to ship the pet, plus $50 for their trouble. The scamee, is supposed to send the scammer back x-amount as the "payment" is an over-payment, for some reason. By the time the bank knows the paper was no good, you're out the whole amount. This is the oldest trick on the web, but I had never heard of it in regards to Petfinder, which is a wonderful website. So your instincts were quite correct.

Hi, I have had the exact thing happen to me here in Colorado. I have a doggy door for my garage to the basement of my house. A big ol' cat showed up out of nowhere, never seen it before. It was curled up in a basket of clothes, beat up, not feeling well. I put food and water down and it immediately ate and drank. I didn't bother it too much because I wanted it to feel welcomed. I have 3 dogs and 3 cats but if this one wants to stay for the winter, that's okay with me. It is black and white, big, I can pet it but not too much so I don't even know if it is a male or female yet. I have named it Speckles because of the spots, which sounds similar to yours. No one responded to my "Found" ads either so as long as it wants to stay here, it can. I am guessing once the warm weather comes, it will return to the outside but it is one that can come and go on its own. Thank you for taking care of this cat, as I am mine here. I think anyone who makes room in any place for a stray to give it comfort is a good person!!

The most common reason for these scam emails on Petfinder is to confirm email addresses -- reply to their email and they know yours is a valid email address. Then the scammer either uses that email or sells it to another, bombards the email address with spam, or uses it as a disguise for other scam emails.
Meanwhile, Spot peed on the bath mat. Seems he's really, really afraid of the Litter Robot, yet walks past the Roomba sweeping the room like it's not even there. We'll either have to let him go outside, requiring us to learn his signals, or put a normal litter box somewhere in the house (tiny house, little room for more than one litter box).
At the moment, Spot's asleep in the carpeted tunnel on Bobbi's cat tree.

Litterbox could go right there, next to the cat tree and the window, life is good! I think if you give him away, he's going to try to get back to you and might not get so lucky next time.
I forgot about the confirmed email thing, duh! That happened to me and they did not bombard my mail with spam, I wish they had. No, they spoofed (forged) my valid email on millions of viagra ads and sent them out. I lost the AOL account I had for more than ten years, with no recourse! Other than a death in the family, it was the worst thing that ever happened to me. I lost a decade of correspondence and saved material, all of which was stored on AOL. I checked and confirmed that no spam had actually gone out on my email address so thought I was safe. I didn't know email addys could be forged. A very hard lesson.

No litterbox in my bedroom, thanks... Besides, that's next to my closet, and anything there would block the door from opening.
